From the Stacks Challenge

Now, Voyager

Oh dear, I’m way behind on tracking my books here. I’d be even further behind if I’d actually been reading as much as I normally do. Silver linings?

The library cart was mostly empty so I turned to my shelves … and had trouble figuring out what to read because when we Kondoed our books, my little shelf of mixed TBR was integrated into the full library. Oops. Blue was easy to get to so I started there and decided a little pulp fiction was in order.

Now, Voyager was awesome, as most old pulp fiction is. I’m glad I read it. I also kind of want to watch the movie again. It’s been a zillion years since I’ve seen it.

Two From TW’s Joy Pile

I decided I was going to participate in the Flash Readathon on Sunday. I decided I was going to grab some children’s fiction or YA fiction from the shelf… something TW swears brings her joy but I have not read.

First, I grabbed Midnight Magic, by Avi. I’ve read a lot of Avi but not this one. It was fun. I’m not sure why TW is sure it brings her joy, but it was cute.

Next, I grabbed Wanted, Mud Blossom. A book I know was mine (my children’s) but I’d never read. Probably because I hadn’t read the other books about the Blossom family and I hate reading series books out of order. I don’t know if my kids ever read this book. Or if they’ve read any other books about the Blossoms. Whatevs. It was cute. Very young, not YA for sure.

I enjoyed them. I’m glad I read them. It was fun. And hey, it’s two books from my stacks! If it were up to me, I’d give them both away, though…

Steal Like an Artist

I’m on an e-Book roll! I have no idea how long Steal Like An Artist has been in my Kindle cloud but it was a fun read during the five and ten minute breaks I took from cleaning my house today.

Super fast read. Nothing really groundbreaking or revolutionary. I did smile a lot about the calendar/log book section — I’ve gone back to paper journaling and filofaxing for all of those reasons.

Hatching Twitter

Elisa sent me a copy of Hatching Twitter at the end of last year and when I needed to download a book for all of the waiting rooms I was going to be sitting in, it seemed like this was a good choice.

I was kind of hoping it would inspire me to go back to Twitter and figure out how to enjoy it again. But no. It didn’t. It might have done exactly the opposite. What. A. Mess.

No wonder we all got so familiar with the fail whale… geez.

Also, am I the only one who wants to track down @Noah and tell him that he did a good thing and he’s better off where he is, than to be in that mess? Long live @Noah! And @jack just makes me roll my eyes. Over and over and over again. Which is what generally happens any time I spend more than 5 minutes on Twitter. Coincidence?

Nancy Drew Sleuth Book

Ages ago, Texasebeth sent me a copy of The Nancy Drew Sleuth Book and it’s been happily on my shelf of Nancy Drews ever since.

I finally made time to read it last night and it was awesome. I did not own this book when I was a kid so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Turns out it’s the best (worst) of all things Nancy Drew (from that era.)

– “She’s so fat, someone should put her on a DIET!”
– “Gypsy palm reading is against the law in River Heights!”
– “Don’t all the people in Chinatown have almond shaped eyes?”

I could go on, but you get the point.

It’s awesome in its horribleness. And, Nancy is a great teacher! River Heights is just crawling with girl detectives thanks to her little club!

The Books They Gave Me

TW impulse purchased The Books They Gave Me when we went to an Indie bookstore right before Christmas. I was a little skeptical – group submission blogs don’t always work as well as books as they do as blogs, (The Books They Gave Me Tumblr), but it was good. The selections were interesting, though I got a little tired of the break up stories – I shouldn’t have read the book straight through, lol.

I find the story from the person who has never received a book as a gift to be the saddest story ever.
