101 Things Update

What in the heck happened to October? Last time I checked it was somewhere around the 15th. I do believe someone stole a whole two weeks from the month. Which would explain why I have so very little to cross off the list this month.

*Updated* How could I forget one of the most important things on the list was accomplished in October?  The cats. Have been. Spayed.  This does not mean Chris’s stupid cat will stay outside and away from me.  Oh no it does not.  She is under my feet right now trying to contaminate me with her germs – which make my eyes itch.  Bah.

Another book on audio bites the dust, now I need another book on audio and have no idea what to choose.

I’m thinking of scratching coffee with Leona off of the list. Not because I don’t love Leona but because TW has taken my place in that coffee with her thing – as it should be.

TW and I had a mommy weekend for my birthday.

I’ve saved money again, all the better to spend it on Prince J’s birthday gift, eh?

Also cleaned out my bookmarks. My spurls no longer exist and I can’t imagine ever trying to clean out all of my deli.cio.us accounts. I’ve started cleaning out my Evernote at the same time as my bookmarks and that’s working really well for me.

I believe Jenn is coming to Florida next month and I plan on taking a full day off of work (hi Lisa!) and spending a day with her. I also plan on getting pictures sorted and stuff hung on the walls (which will make TW nervous and make me laugh.) Hmmm what else will I do in November? Probably not much – and I’m less than a year away from my deadline, argh!

The Year the Gypsies Came

I wasn’t really sure that I wanted to read The Year the Gypsies Came. The first few chapters weren’t all that encouraging. Then suddenly, probably with the arrival of Buza and his stories, I was captivated. And then, when I saw the bad stuff coming, it was too late for me to decide not to read it.

Bad stuff in this book, lots of bad stuff.

I really enjoyed the book, I just wish… well, read it for yourself. You’ll see what I mean. But beware, it isn’t really a happy book.

Edited: I just realized this was a book I had on my A to Z list challenge. Yay me! (I’ll never complete the challenge but it’s one step closer.)

Hmmmm, let me think….

I was going to log off without blogging over here today. Nothing really caught my eye or lured me away from a very, very full day of work. Them’s the breaks and it’s not like I’m participating in NaBloPoMo or even if I was, it’s not November. So yea. I was going to blow off blogging. No big deal, I do it often. But then, 30 items away from closing my feedreader for the night – what do I see? The perfect topic for me to blog about.

Could Your Partner Do Your Job?

Perfect, right? So perfect. But damn. I don’t think I can actually blog it without ticking someone off. While some of you might think that I never worry about that, I do. There are a million things I don’t blog for that very reason. Since I can’t blog about whether or not my partner can do my job… how about a list of all of the things I can’t blog about? Or some of the things I can’t blog about.

1) My mother’s ability to tick off certain of my siblings.
2) My mother’s general inability to tick me off – til today when she suggested I was menopausal. (bitch.)
3) The hysterical thing a kid said last night, without prompting.
4) The really dumb thing Michelle said a couple of days ago.
5) The really dumb things Christopher says several times a week.
6) Speaking of Christopher, I’d love to blog a comparison of all of his g/f’s.
7) Jenn and her, ummm, life. (she’s blonde – brilliant but also blonde.)
8) My ex husband and his, errrr, life?
9) My ex job, ex boss, ex co-workers.
10) Sex, sex and more sex – or lack of.

How’s that for a list of things I don’t blog?

I really do wish I could blog about whether or not my partner can do my job. ‘Cause it would be an awesome blog post. Hmmm, password protection might be in order here. What do you think?

Kissing the Witch

Awhile back, Sassymonkey was trying to come up with books for a fairy tales challenge of some sort. I gave her some ideas but generally speaking, she came up with her list on her own. As I was searching, I realized I had never read Kissing the Witch: Old Tales in New Skins. Crazy, we read a lot of fairy tales around here. So, I reserved it.

And it was terrific. I really liked the way one fairy tale moved into the next. All of the connections between the women. Really excellent idea and one that should have been done before – or maybe it has and I’ve been missing it?

Eclipse

Remember when I won a contest at Bookburger and got a free audio copy of Eclipse? TW and I have been listening to it in the car for ages. Finally, it was over today on the way home from breakfast. Finally. Thank goodness.

I officially hate Bella. Also Alice, though not nearly as much. I hate Edward and Jake, too – but not as much as I hate Bella. And also Alice. I would probably hate Edward, Jake and Alice less if Bella wasn’t such a whining, annoying, twit of a girl. What in the heck happened to the Bella in Twilight that led her to what she is in Eclipse? Whatever Stephanie Meyers was drinking when she wrote Eclipse, she should stay away from it if she writes another book in this series.

Sheesh.

I loved Twilight. I really liked New Moon. I wanted to like Eclipse but I didn’t – not even a little bit.

Hanks: A Gathering of Community

Hanks Yarn & Fiber opened today in the shopping center very close to my house. We were there and it was fun. I’m not a knitter or a crocheter but I can’t wait to go back tomorrow. And the next day. And the next day. Hanks is all about yarn and fiber but it’s a lot more than that. It’s about people. And community. And I’m not just saying this because Ginger, Lorena and Sharon are my friends.

I watched all three of them talk to people they had never met before and help them feel welcome in the store – whether they bought anything or not. The two young girls sitting in the middle of the floor with their Nintendo DS’s were welcomed. Men in kilts, welcomed. Women new to knitting and crochet and spinning, welcomed.

hanks.jpgWhen we walked in the store, from the Publix side, the couches and chairs were full of knitters. Lorena is helping a customer while Sharon laughs the way only Sharon can laugh. Who knows what they were talking about over there…

ginger.jpgGinger was busy at work, spinning a skein of yarn into a ball (Bless her for spinning TW’s new sock yarn and the yarn I bought for my mom’s birthday into balls. The latter, in particular, was not an easy thing to do – and I really really appreciate her patience and her help.)

sharon.jpgSharon, again, happy and laughing. She’s like that in general but opening Hanks is like a dream come true.

hanks-bouncer.jpgThe “bouncer” looking serious about making sure people enjoyed their visit to Hanks.

Care to join me at Hanks tomorrow around 3? Or next week, Tuesday – Thursday, around noon? If you don’t live in Gainesville, and you need some yarn, you can order online. It won’t be the same, but it will still be a great experience.
