Pinterest Frustration

Like all new social media platforms, I joined Pinterest without really thinking about how I might use it, whether I might use it for the rest of my life and whether I was going to find myself with a mess if the darn thing took off like wildfire and became the next big thing that STICKS.

So, years have passed and Pinterest is a thing. A thing that should be used. Properly. Or at least in a way that makes a little bit of damn sense. Having not enough boards or the wrong boards has been making me CRAZY so I finally decided that I either needed to FIX it or STOP USING IT and since I obviously can’t stop using it, I’m fixing it.

I’m making new boards. Deleting old boards. Moving pins to the proper places. Getting rid of pins to dead content or pins that I don’t even understand why they were pinned to my account in the first effing place. What was I thinking?

I started out saying I’d spend 30 minutes a day on Pinterest, fixing my damn account. But after 15 minutes this morning, I was feeling a lot of anxiety. I don’t really LIKE Pinterest, lol. So I’ve decided forget that 30 minutes a day, I’ll just do 15 minutes. I can handle 15 minutes and when it’s all fixed — I’ll feel better about Pinterest. Right? RIGHT!

Do you have boards that make sense? Do you have too many, not enough or just the right number of boards? Do you tidy your Pinterest account regularly or just pin and forget about it?

  1. I have been creating new boards/categories and moving things lately. Trying to make things “fit” better.

I love Pinterest and how easy it makes links accessible without printing out lots of paper.

  2. I go through Pinterest “phases”, like I’ll leave it alone for three weeks and then for six straight days I’ll spend 30 minutes pinning stuff and occasionally cleaning up boards. I like that Pinterest doesn’t date when you pin something, so for all anyone knows, I just pinned the most recent one five minutes ago.

  3. I like to have pretty specific boards, and while when I first got into Pinterest I spent about half an hour a day combing through everything it had to offer, nowadays unless I’m looking for something specific I spend maybe five minutes every other day. My “problem” is that, for reasons, I had to switch my work pins (like, if I pin something from my online shop) to a business account – my choice was to switch my personal to business, or start a new business account – so now I have two accounts and it’s getting complicated. I stay logged into my business account on the desktop computer, and my personal account on my tablet.

I would say that I keep both pretty tidy, and while I don’t tend to go through and clean pins out, I do sometimes double-check to make sure that I haven’t already pinned the thing I’m getting ready to pin. I find it irking to go to someones, say, “egg-free cakes!” board and it’s fifty pins of the same three cakes. I don’t want to be that person.
