We still love to listen to the #1 Ladies Detective Agency on audio and I really enjoyed Precious and Grace. We spent more time with all of the different secondary characters in this book and those were some great moments.

First, I have no idea who this author is or why some people were so disappointed with Road to Paradise. It wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t that bad (except the end. The end was annoying.) Some of the things people seem to be complaining about were things I found interesting. The religious discussions. I liked those.
I also enjoyed thinking about what a road trip in 1980 would be like for a couple (ok, three) teen girls. It was a fun reminder of how much life has changed. How the hell did we manage road trips back then? We did, clearly, but good grief — life is better now, lol. Paper maps are annoying. No ATM machines. No cell phones. Gah. Life is definitely better now.

I decided another Holly Black book was in order and went with vampires… The Coldest Girl in Coldtown and while I still prefer her faerie books, I enjoyed this one quite a bit.
Interesting characters, Gavriel’s insanity was a nice change for a vampire “hero.” The bloggers and vloggers and video feeds creating a weird connection between Coldtowns and the rest of the world was an interesting concept, too. I could see that happening. Absolutely.

Boy, ain’t that the truth… there’s absolutely too much “connection” going on. (I say that with some sarcasm, true as it may be.) Crosstalk was pretty good, though I admit to rolling my eyes a bit, in places. Let me just go on record as saying I don’t want my phone to help me communicate telepathically. I also do not want brain surgery that helps me “connect” more with my partner.

Rick Yancey makes me cringe with the gore sometimes but I’m way too invested in Will Henry and must find out what happens next. So… Isle of Blood happened.
I liked this one more than the last book. Will Henry is growing up and, well… becoming Will Henry. One more book to go. I’m a little worried.
Since we spend a lot of time pondering “the ways of the country folk” I thought I needed to read The City Baker’s Guide to Country Living and it was cute. Fun to read with just enough quirk to make me happy.

I picked up The Empress of Tempera solely for the title. I mean tempera… like I would pass that up.
Turns out it was a pretty good story. I liked Paire more than I thought I would and that ending. The kiln. Hah. I was pretty pleased with how it all turned out.

I had no idea who Arne and Carlos were when I picked up their Make Your Own Ideabook at the library. I still had no idea who they were after about 10 pages but I had the impression that they were… knitters?
So I stopped and looked them up and ended up watching some Youtube video of them doing a Q&A. Yep, knitters and totally adorable. But anyway, this book… It was pretty terrific.
There wasn’t anything I didn’t know in there, but the photos were fabulous and getting a look at some of the pages of their ideabooks was fabulous. I’m really glad I checked this one out. Also, they’re really cute. lol.

It’s planting season in Florida and TW has the “bug” — and ever since I read a bunch of edible landscaping books last year and the year before, I’ve been dreaming of rosehips, kiwi fruit and blueberry hedges. But, I couldn’t remember exactly which book(s) I’d read that had inspired that little day dream. So, I looked back over my Goodreads history and found the one that I THOUGHT was the right one, Foodscaping: Practical and Innovative Ways to Create an Edible Landscape and reserved it at the library. Just in case, I reserved another. They both came in at the same time — I was right about which one I’d been thinking of and I bought the darn thing because I really like it.
I think TW probably like the other one, Edible Landscaping with a Permaculture Twist better. And I did like one of the projects a lot — and I’m pretty sure we’ll be building a spiral herb garden some day. (I’m not sure we’re going to build an outdoor clay oven though. Sorry TW, sorry JMP.)
