The Wild Girl
It took me awhile to settle into the story about The Wild Girl but once I did, I really enjoyed it. I’m a fan of Grimm’s fairy tales so it was extra interesting to read this.

It’s pretty interesting to read (or re-read, in my case) Peyton Place now. Such a scandalous book 60 years ago, now … not so much. Even more interesting to re-read it after reading Unbuttoning of America (which is what led me down the Peyton Place path. lol.
I totally enjoyed reading it — probably more this time around than the first time 35ish years ago.
We needed an audio book and none of our audio holds were in so I turned to Hooplah… but the only thing I could find quickly was The Nightingale Before Christmas… so I downloaded it. I figured since I liked that flamingo one all those years ago, (And maybe we’ve also ready another one?), and it was Christmas, then this would be a fine choice.
And it was.
Meg amuses me and so do the rest of the residents of Caerphilly.

I’m so glad I read Saint Mazie. It was a great book and she was an awesome character (woman, since the book is partially based on a real person.)
We need more people like Mazie in the world.
I had no idea Elizabeth, NJ had three plane crashes over the course of a few weeks. How horrendous that must have been. And Judy Blume does an excellent job of fictionalizing the events in In An Unlikely Event.
There are a ton of characters introduced early and that was a little confusing, particularly since I had no idea what the darn book was about when we started listening to it on audio. Once I realized – multiple plane crashes and that’s why all of these people were important, it was easier to follow.
Well done, Judy Blume. Well done.

Through the Woods was excellent. Creepy but not overly scary and not silly, as kids’ scary stories sometimes are.
I loved, loved, loved, The Shadow Hero and I didn’t expect to. The afterword, with info about the 1940s Green Turtle just made it even better.
To This Day: For the Bullied and the Beautiful was very well done. Great illustrations, great stories.

I generally like Adriana Trigiani but I had some issues with All the Stars In Heaven. I was just plain troubled by the love story between Loretta Young and Clark Gable. It was… too much, considering odds are high that it wasn’t anything remotely like that (based on stories told after their deaths.)
I liked Alda and Luca. I’d have rather had that story with fake movie stars. Sigh.

Mrs. Roosevelt’s Confidante is one of my favorite Maggie Hope novels. I love Maggie in the US! I’m a little worried about the next book, though — Maggie’s sister, her mother, her father, it’s all a mess.

I read The Royal We because I read an article that said Lauren Graham had bought the rights to the book. That interested me so I figured I’d read before she turned it into a movie.
It was good. I’m surprised at how much I enjoyed it because girl meets prince is not really my thing. Read it. You’ll enjoy it.
After seeing this book talked about in a lot of places, I finally managed to read Kitchens of the Great Midwest. And, I’m not sure how I feel about it.
I almost stopped reading after the Sweet Pepper Jelly chapter, but I stuck with it… and then I mostly enjoyed it … and then I was annoyed with it all over again.
Have you read it? What did you think of it?
