Daily Dose of Work – Toys

September_005

TW use to work from home but she doesn’t anymore. I feel bad about that, even when she isn’t really sick I feel bad about it. Even when she isn’t actively and loudly missing being at home with the little kids. And that. Is why. I buy. Her TOYS! Yes, toys for work. I’ve bought her lots of toys. And pets. The hermit crabs (Ellen, Spikey and Artemis) that the little kids and I got her for her birthday were suppose to go to work. That hasn’t happened and it has made me sort of grouchy.

Anyway, back to the toys.

Apparently work is suppose to be fun. (who knew???) Apparently not many people find work fun and the folks at To-Done have suggestions about how to change that. Number one on their list is TOYS! Ha, see I am smarter than you people give me credit for!

Now the real question is, should I get her another Hazel to take to work? It’s a great toy, her coworkers would love it… or should I just sign her up for an email joke a day thing instead?

The Gilded Chamber

Chamber The Gilded Chamber is NOT The Red Tent, we have to get that point out of the way right now. I’m really tired of seeing “If you liked The Red Tent, you’ll like ______” and that sort of thing used to describe these types of books.

Because The Gilded Chamber is not The Red Tent, it falls short just like all of the Biblical novels about women do. That’s not to say it wasn’t good or worth reading, it was both, it just wasn’t … The Red Tent.

Towelhead

Towel How can one girl be surrounded by so many dysfunctional adults? Good grief! A little too much dysfunction for me – and why I read this in September of all months, I will never know. Oh wait, I read it in September because I fell so far behind over the summer … I just kept renewing it and renewing it and can’t renew it any longer.

I didn’t love this one, didn’t hate it either. Not great, not horrible. Just more dysfunctional abused kid surrounded by dysfunctional abusive adults stuff. Ho hum.

Daily Dose of Health – Skin Cancer?

Imuran and skin cancer

Azathioprine aka Imuran is a drug given to transplant patients, those with severe arthritis and others with auto-immune diseases, like Ulcerative Colitis.

TW’s been taking this drug for quite some time and it’s worked pretty well, compared to the other drugs she tried. She’s pretty good about slathering sunscreen on if we’re outdoors for an extended period of time but probably not as good about it as she would have been had she known that she had an increased risk of skin cancer because of the Imuran.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another with these darn drugs. If it isn’t the original disease that gets you it’s some side effect or increased risk from the drugs. It’s darn frustrating.

Daily Dose of TV – Survivor

Yea! The rumors were right, Stephanie and Bobby Jon have returned! Though Bobby Jon didn’t give a very good performance in the first episode. Ha, maybe he is playing sick so he doesn’t seem like a threat? The nurse sure got a workout, I hope they keep her for awhile. Did you see the previews for next week? Steph says she’s not eating ants? Ha, since when? She ate all sorts of stuff at Palau and never even flinched, she draws the line at Carpenter Ants? Maybe she spent too much time at the Jersey mall in the off season and got soft or something?

I wonder when CBS will add Steph and Bobby John to the Players List?

Daily Dose of Diet – Dogs

Did you know dogs love Capri Sun? Well it’s not just Capri Sun, these dogs are well known coffee, coke and hot chocolate fans, too. Everyone knows not to leave their drink sitting anywhere near the dogs because it will be gone as soon as you turn your back or even turn your head. Many a Starbucks drink has been lost to these dogs.

Monday morning there was a Capri Sun package on the living room floor. I figured a little kid had not thrown away the package and the dogs enjoyed gnawing on it to get the residuals out. Tuesday morning, another Capri Sun grimey and wet and full of dog gnawing marks. Again, I assumed a little kid leftover. Wednesday morning, same thing and I assumed it was Michelle’s Capri Sun package because she had been drinking a Capri Sun during Gilmore Girls. But, as I bent to pick that one up I noticed the straw was intact, still in its packaging a few steps away from the dog mangled pouch. Hmmm… This morning, another dog gone mangled Capri Sun. And again, an intact straw. What the….

I was pondering this question as I headed into the kitchen to toss the evidence in the trash when my leg knocked the Capri Sun box off of the shelf by the kitchen door. Ah ha! They are taking the Capri Suns out of the box in the kitchen and carrying them into the living room without pulling the box all of the way off of the shelf!

These dogs are geniuses when it comes to getting their Capri Sun fix.

Daily Dose of Health – Podcast

Episode 5 of Crohn’s Talk podcast is out and Kerry is right – Prednisone stinks and when they tell you that all of those side effects will go away and the weight will go away … THEY LIE! 😉

Kerry talks about the shortage of Methotrexate, (there seems to be a shortage of Pentasa as well, based on some of the posts I’ve seen the Crohn’s & Colitis board), and she talks a bit about the other drugs for Crohn’s. Many of those are UC drugs as well. TW appreciated hearing her talk about Remicade. Her doctor is once again mentioning Remicade. Not good, sort of a last resort thing…

Jackie and his floating noodle story were a TRIP, lol. He pays a lot more attention than I do – I’d have never noticed it. 😉

Thanks Kerry and Jackie!
