Live at Union Hall

Before I ramble about Melissa’s new cd, I have to rant about Goldenrod Music. Again. Afreakinggain. When will I learn NOT to pre-order Melissa’s cds from them? I’m betting if you click my Melissa category and scroll back over the years you will see that I have ranted about them before. If I EVER say I’m going to pre-order music from them, can you shoot me and put me out of my damn misery? Because once again, I do not have my Melissa cds and I cannot get anyone to answer email regarding my order.

So – screw them. I went to Melissa’s myspace and downloaded the tracks for $1 each and am happily listening to an awesome live album. Awesome. But, and there is a but, be forewarned, if you do not already know Melissa’s music you probably will not like this one. And if you like Melissa’s music but do not enjoy her shows because she rambles through her songs and tends to change them around or make up new words then you will not like this album.

I, however, love nothing better than to attend Melissa’s shows and listen to her have fun with her songs – and with her fans – and with the person/people she’s playing music with. Some people complain about Skinnier, Faster, Live because they just can’t listen to her talk about getting her hair cut over and over again. I, however, never get tired of hearing Melissa talk about getting her hair cut. So, I love this album.

Love it.

Also, Lyra the bird likes it – and she’s never attended a Melissa concert. Maybe I don’t hate this bird as much as I originally thought. Maybe.

Update: 3 hours later I received an email from Goldenrod letting me know that they just received the CDs and are processing orders. I do appreciate it when folks answer their email.

And another update 1 day later: Another email letting me know they are shipping CDs today.  And also you should know that I’ve only listened to the CD about 50 times in the last 24 hours and have already worn out the cd I burned the mp3s to.

And She Was…

And She Was… what? That’s the question, what was she? Who was she? Why in the heck did I spend almost a full week trying to read this book? The answer to the last question is the easy one – because Staci and TW both recommended it. While TW has steered me wrong in the past, Staci has not, so I stuck it out.

Mostly I’m left with, “huh?” But the last half of the book DID interest me and I had high hopes. Unfortunately, once I was finished, I just felt let down. It could have been really good. In places it WAS really good. Aleut mummies, women power, Alaskan bars – what’s not to love? Unfortunately, a lot. It could have been SO good. But it wasn’t.

(Don’t feel badly Staci, I’ll still read what you recommend in the future.)

She just walks around with it – unless she’s trapped on a ball

Kristy. Is. Awesome.

Anyone who has attended BlogHer Con already knows this. Anyone who reads her blog already knows this.

What? You haven’t attended either BlogHer Con or read her blog? WTF are you doing with your life? What a waste. But it’s ok. You can start now. It’s never too late to make a healthy change. And don’t worry, you won’t have to lay on a rubber ball, or stop eating carbs.

Read and learn and laugh. A lot.
