Everyday is a Good Day

Just finished my first book on the iPad, Everyday is a Good Day (by Wilma Mankiller.)  I’m so glad I read it and just wish I’d read it before Mankiller passed away.  Interesting essays and observations from Mankiller and other women from various tribes. Highly recommend this one.

7 Poets 4 Days 1 Book

I picked up 7 poets 4 Days 1 Book at the library because the cover was cool. When I read the first couple of pages, it was even cooler. Seven poets from all of the world came to Iowa to spend four days writing poetry. Not collaboratively but not singularly, either. They’d write, they would read aloud (some had to translate to English, on the spot, because they write in other languages – which I cannot even imagine doing) and then they would edit, write some more, and talk about their poems.

It’s interesting to see themes, common and not, that obviously came from the direct sharing of works in progress. Mis-hearing or misunderstanding another poets words turned into something else completely in someone else’s work. Or pushed them toward something that sounded similar but was different.

Very interesting reading. And, a good choice for both the Dewey Readathon and National Poetry Month.

(And just to help me keep track – 122 pages.)

The Weed that Strings the Hangman’s Bag

Have I mentioned I love Flavia De Luce? The Weed that Strings the Hangman’s Bag might have actually been better than the first book. Flavia is funny. People take her a wee bit more seriously in this book than they did in the first one, which is as it should be. Loved the description of the puppet show, excellent writing.

Now, onto the “real” Readathon books… total pages read thus far, 152.

First snack of Dewey’s Readathon

Or maybe normal people would consider it breakfast? Orange ginger muffin from TJ’s, it’s not ginger-y enough.

Started the book of poetry and am about to dive back into the newest Flavia De Luce book, must finish it soon – about 100 pages to go.

Pages read 45 minutes in – 12 (don’t judge, I was reading the blogs of those participating and leaving some comments.)

Let Dewey’s Readathon Begin

And, in honor of my 7:17 start time – I’m participating in the first mini challenge, which is a quick and easy meme:

What am I reading for the challenge? A lot of non-fiction and some Nancy Drews. (I’m trying to knock some books off of my Challenge lists and catch up on my TBR!)

Where am I reading from today – my bedroom, in Glenview IL. Though I may wander around a little if I get restless or Wilma the prairie dog needs attention.

Three facts about me? 1) I drink coffee all day long and well into the night, without it I would die. 2) I am a workaholic 3) I do not like surprises – good or bad – they’re all bad.

How many books do I have set aside for the challenge? 10 (and a half – I need to finish the book in progress that I didn’t finish yesterday.)

My goal for the readathon is to actually do it and not get distracted by work – or life.

I’m not a veteran, I’m a first time. But I’m heading into Mr Linky to quickly surf some tips now.
