7 Books from the Cybils Shortlist (Read During #readathon)

Again, in the order in which I read them:

Home Sweet Horror — not a bad ghost story/Bloody Mary story. The dead mom/ring was a nice touch.

Dragonbreath: The Case of the Toxic Mutants — I liked it. It amused me. If you like those books I recommended last year? Earlier this year? The ones about the amoeba? Heck, what are those called… I’m gonna go look… Squish! then you’ll probably like Dragonbreath.

Violet Mackerel’s Natural Habitat — I’m a fan of Violet Mackerel but this wasn’t my favorite. I liked it, I just didn’t love love love it.

Kelsey Green Third Grade Reading Queen — was cute. Good for Kelsey for helping Cody, even if her motives weren’t necessarily the best. I hope she learned something, though I’m not sure she did… which is possibly the only thing about the story that I didn’t love.

Lulu and the Dog From the Sea — I loved it. Obviously. I’ve got three darn puppies that I adopted because I had to… I’m very glad it ended the way that it did. 😉

The Life of Ty: Penguin Problems — I did not like. There were moments when I liked it but a lot more moments when I did not. The Penguin part, that’s when it sealed the deal for me… did not like that.

The 14 Fibs of Gregory K was excellent. I’m very glad I stayed up til after 1am to finish it. The only problem was that I wanted pie and it was 1am!

4 Art/Craft Books from #readathon 2014

Let’s see… in the order in which I read them:

Washi Tape: 101 Ideas… If you’ve never really hear of Washi Tape, used Washi Tape, seen Pinterest ideas for Washi Tape, or have very little imagination — this is the book for you. Super basic, nothing new. Pretty photos, though.

Washi Wonderful is a much better choice for those who have used Washi in the past and want some new ideas or newish ideas that further trigger your imagination.

Just Paint It was a nice book — lots of ideas to try and great photos. I’d be tempted to buy this one…

Making Handmade Marks was disappointing. I didn’t love the tool ideas and I loved the actual pages done with the tool ideas even less. Nothing really inspired me and that’s unusual.

12 Hours of #Readathon and the Mid-Event Survey

1. I’m diving into some books from the Cybils shortlist — first up is Scary Tales: Home Sweet Horror
2. I’ve finished 5 books for a total of 963 pages.
3. Gah. I still don’t have any one particular book I’m looking forward to. Mostly I’m hoping to get through my stack of Cybils and two more art books before this thing ends. I’m looking forward to hitting that goal!
4. I had a rough start — kid issues. My dad called at some point but I didn’t pick up (sorry dad, I’ll call you tomorrow.) Another kid texted me for a bit but that wasn’t much of a distraction. The dogs have been pretty darn well behaved so yippee!
5. I’ve been surprised by the fact that I haven’t given in to my desire for naps. Heh.

Onward, the books await!

#Readathon: 10th Hour

I read Mind MGMT (Vol 3), 175 pages, — unfortunately I hadn’t read vol 1 or 2 so I was a little lost. I was also a little bored. I don’t think I’m going to backtrack and read the first two. Too bad though since I like the idea of the darn series.

It’s time for dinner … veggie samosas and lemon orzo with pine nuts.

I’m moving on to some middle grade fiction, I think.

#Readathon: Approaching Three Hours

Why are my eyes already tired? This makes no sense! Eye drops, I need eye drops.

Just getting to the crux of the matter in The Harlot’s Tale and considering whether it might be time to hand the dogs their new toys… maybe.

Now I’m heading off to do a couple of mini-challenges. I like the ones that want us to take photos. Those are fun. (You can follow along on my instagram stream.
