Dewey’s Readathon

We turned off the light at midnight and were up at 8 a.m. and ready to go again. Well mostly ready to go again. The coffee has been made, the cinnamon rolls (oh, orange rolls actually) are in the oven. The dogs are using the bathroom and TW has the vacuum cleaner out cleaning up silica gel balls (don’t ask.) I read two paragraphs of a book of short stories, Dear Sweet Filthy World, while the coffee was brewing but that’s about it — so far. I’ll be back to it for reals as soon as the orange rolls are out of the oven.

On to the survey:

1. What are you reading right now?

I’m reading Stray City and the aforementioned Dear Sweet Filthy World.

2. How many books have you read so far?

I’ve just finished the one and am well into #2.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?

Stray City, the one I’m reading now.

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?

No real interruptions last night except going to sleep to get my 8 hours of sleep. 😉

5. What surprises you most about the Reverse Readathon so far?

I was a little worried about starting so late, taking that long sleep time, and then getting back to it but it seems like it might be ok… aside from the issue with the silica gel beads… I think we might do it this way again, the next time we do a fake readathon.

Right about the time TW started bugging me about having a “fake” readathon, I saw the post saying there would be a Reverse Readathon in July. And, it’s actually on a weekend that works for us to participate! (Shocking, considering how busy our weekends have been and will be, for awhile.)

We didn’t prepare well with the reserving and checking out of special books and our snacks are heavy on processed food and sugar but we’re doing this and we’re darn excited about it. (And maybe I can actually finish a book?)

Hah. I can tell I haven’t done this in awhile, I usually pre-write my answers (or most of them) to the opening survey. LOL. Not this year. I had almost forgotten that there was an opening survey. Gah. I hope to never miss two #readathons in a row, again. Ever.

Onward…

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
— I’m quite happy to be reading from Keystone Heights, FL and NOT from Chicagoland. Finally.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
— Hard to say. Doodle Revolution? Or Book Jumper? Oh wait. FIRE! (a graphic novel about the life of Zora Neale Hurston.)

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
— Well. I’m not sure. We deviated from the norm this year and just bought our snacks at Publix. So, there’s nothing really exotic or unusual happening. That’s going to be something I regret. I guarantee it. Maybe the cream horns. I LOVE CREAM HORNS.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
— I am starting off tired. No idea why, since I slept well. You care about this, right?

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
— I did not participate in the last readathon but I’ve participated in a lot of them … today…I’m going to be reading outside a bit, particularly in the morning while it’s cool. That will be a big change for me. We’ll see how that goes.

Onward to the books (and the coffee!)

1. I’m currently reading No Wind of Blame (on Kindle) and Like Carrot Juice on a Cupcake

2. I’ve finished 2 non-fiction and 2 children’s fiction books.

3. I’m most looking forward to Herotica 2.

4. I haven’t had a lot of interruptions but the Cubs game is starting right now so I’ll be listening to it and reading — which will be hard.

5. I’m more tired this #readathon than ever before. I’m not sure that’s a surprise, considering my recent sleeping habits, but it’s definitely a change from previous events. Hopefully, I’ll get a second wind after the game and can really focus and finish a few more books.
