Yea, We’re Those People

Obviously, since my stream is full of photos about dogs and status updates about dogs and if JMP isn’t around, it’s all dogs all of the time.

Even the Petsmart clerk was taken aback by the 30 dog toys we bought a couple of weeks ago. She is very sure she’s never seen anyone buy so many dog toys at one time. (Which kind of scared me but hey, we’re those people now so I am just gonna go with it…)

The next level of being those people is happening tomorrow. We’re walking a 5k, with the dogs, to help raise money for Wright-Way Rescue (the shelter that brought us Skeeter and Lola.) It’s gonna be HELL because Skeeter and Lola aren’t well leash trained (Lola isn’t leash trained at all, when you get right down to it.) They both see crowds of dogs and think “off-leash dog park, let us go!!!!” so I have no idea what’s gonna happen when they’re in a crowd of people, and dogs, and we force them to walk with us. Thank goodness for harnesses and dual leash clip thingies.

Think good, happy thoughts — it’s gonna be wild, but also fun.

And if you like and have the funds, a donation would be very much appreciated. Too many dogs (and cats) are put down every year and I’m thankful for Wright-Way for giving us the opportunity to bring these two wild (and oh so cute) beasts into our lives (and yours.)

  1. Oh hey, we’re both going event-supporting tomorrow. I’m volunteering at an annual cancer walk again.

I would say “Maybe they’ll wear themselves out quickly and then walk calmly on their leashes,” except I suspect your show girls have unlimited energy reserves. Wishing you lots of luck tomorrow! I’m awaiting a blog report for the event. 🙂

  2. I bought a dual leash thingy but haven’t tried it out yet. Ruby has a harness but I haven’t tried leash walking with Max other than in/out of Petsmart. Ruby is leashed trained barely but once she scents something – bam! my shoulder is almost dislocated.

Good luck at the 5K tomorrow!

  3. You and TW have such big hearts. Those pups are lucky that you love them, and just so you know, I love the pictures of the pups.

I don’t think the Gentle Leader works on beagles. Tried it w/ two of them. 🙁

I’m with you: thank goodness for harnesses and dual leash clip thingies!

I wouldn’t be able to take Roxie out to do this, not because of her behavior but because of her blood-curdling howl. She scares the crap out of people. 🙁

  5. Hey there, Denise! I think all of these airy-fairy suggestions for holding your puppies in check are polite lip service because you are a BlogHer moderator. Take it from the VOICE OF EXPERIENCE, having traveled through airport security with Skeeter II. With Skeeter I and Lola’s zest for living, I would just call it a day, expect the worse, have fun, and keep the 911 number handy. Maybe large doggy crates on wheels with luggage straps are in order? Godspeed, young women, Godspeed.
