$10, $15, $25, $50 – It makes a difference

Over the weekend, I bought a domain name for $10. I haven’t decided what I’m going to do with it yet.

$10 covers the costs of a clinic in Nepal for two days. 2 days.

This morning, we spent $15 at Starbucks. We bought 2 Quad Grande Non-Fat Caramel Macchiatos and 1 Triple Grande Cinnamon Dulce w/whip.

$15 also buys lunch for 50 girls in a West African village

$15 can fund healthcare for medicine for 100 refugees in Darfur

We need to fill up the gas tank today, which will cost about $25.

$25 also aids 20 Afghanistan women with reproductive health care and education

I was thinking about dinner at Satchel’s which costs about $50.

$50 will provide AIDS counseling for 2 women in South Africa.

My money can make a difference – so can yours.

Contentious

I love Amy Gahran. She’s good people. And brilliant. And I’m not just saying that because she mentioned me in her good people video. Or just because she mentioned TW. Or just because she mentioned BlogHer.

For years, I would send links to Amy’s posts to my boss and coworkers – trying to plead my case for the “company” moving into social media and social marketing – trying to convince “them” that we needed to have a discussion with people.

And then, there was that somewhat drunken cocktail party by the pool at BlogHerCon06 when Amy pulled her mic out of her pocket to record AllAboutGeorge and instantly he pulled his mic out to record Amy. It was brilliant. A fantastic example of what we’re all doing out here in the blogosphere.

And then there was the time when Amy started the whole buzz about whether or not it was professional to share personal details about your life on your blog or with your clients. That survey, do you remember the survey? Not only is Amy brilliant, she’s brave.

OK enough already, I need to get to work.

10 good reasons to go to BlogHerCon 08

Someone on Twitter, I can’t remember who, said she’d love a “10 reasons to go to BlogHerCon 08” list. Because she was thinking about it, but she just wasn’t sure. I didn’t have the time to make a list, and I still don’t have time. But, I did have time to ask Prince J for his list.

You see, Prince J went to BlogHerCon 07 with us and he LOVED IT. He loved it so much that he is really TICKED off that he cannot attend this year. Seriously TICKED off about this. But, he’s a good sport and happily spouted off ten reasons people should go to BlogHerCon 08.

1) Denise will be there (which counts as 9)
2) There’s free stuff (Prince J’s sister is also ticked that she is not going to BlogHerCon08 this year. She was at camp last year and missed the big event. She wants to go for the big PPP pens.)
3) The coffee bar was awesome so there should be one again this year.
4) He’ll be there (ha in his dreams, he’s not going this year and he is angry about this.)
5) They have a really good internet connection with a lot of places to plug in your laptop or (recharge your gameboy/ds)
6) You can meet Tish Grier (is she going to be there in 08? Prince J was really taken with Tish, as any smart person would be.)
7) You can stalk the sushi guy at the cocktail party.
8) You can meet people who care about what you’re interested in (He met gamers!)
9) People talk to you, who you don’t even know! (And they expect you to talk back to them! Even if you don’t really know them.)
10) You can meet new computers and check out their cool laptop stickers! (Prince J really enjoyed scoping out all of the different laptops and their stickers.)
