Daily Dose of Television – Gilmore Girls

Emptychair
Last night was a big, big night at the Flamingo House. The Gilmore Girls (and the rest of the Stars Hollow folks) are back! Yea!  Life doesn’t get any bigger or better than that.  It’s been so longgggg!

Last night was also a sad night at the Flamingo House.  Michelle was not home to watch GGs with us.  That. Was. Sad.  Almost too sad to take.

Tuesday night is moms and me night.  Before Michelle had two moms, it was mom and me night.  And before that, it was mom and sister and me night because Jenn always watched it with us in NJ.  It’s tradition.  Seven years of tradition we’re working on.  And she missed it last night.  HMPH.

Let me do a mini review  to take my mind off of missing Michelle. (Michelle, stop reading if you haven’t watched the tape – anyone else who taped or Tivoed, stop reading)

First monologue of Lauren Graham with Suki.  I didn’t like it.  The whole Luke/Car analogy thing.  Lauren Graham was trying too hard with crap writing. Lorelai can do some great things to an analogy, but that wasn’t hers.   After that… smooth sailing.

Loved every supporting cast moment – Paris, Suki and Michele, Taylor and Kirk, Miss Patty, Gypsy, even Kirk’s g/f.  I’m falling out of love with Sally Struthers and I’m not sure why.  Babette is boring me.  It’s probably just me.

I loved the Twilight Zone rocket but am apalled that Rory took that long to figure it out.  I’m thrilled with her last scene with Logan on the phone.  Time for Rory to learn a lesson and be a big girl.  Running off to London – WRONG move.  And Lorelai, for suggesting it – bah.  There is such thing as "too much nice mom".

Now, about Luke/Lorelai/Christopher.  Christopher is slimey.  I have never liked him.  Ever. I do not like him now.  That little shudder Lorelai did after getting out of his house – that’s how I feel anytime Christopher is in a scene.  Now the previews indicate Lorelai is going to be 16 again and screw up her life once more, and do it with Christopher.  Tell me it will be Emily who does what she should have done 20 years ago… In the meantime, I am not sure how much Christopher and Lorelai I can take.  I’ll enjoy seeing Luke suffer though – he is going to suffer right?  He’s not gonna fall into bed with April’s mom, right?  He’s been a jerk but he’s smarter than that – smarter than Lorelai in this area.

Yea GGs is back.  Sniffffff I missed watching it with Michelle.

Daily Dose of Television – Survivor

I am a Survivor fan.  Blame TW.  Until she came along, actually until we moved in together, I was not a Survivor fan.  I didn’t get the big deal.  I had enjoyed reality TV, in the form of Real World in the early days, but Survivor – bah. Whatever.  Then, I got hooked.  I think I enjoy it more than TW now.

The upcoming season, I was looking forward to it.  Now.  I’m not.  I’m considering reducing my television watching to only one hour a week and simply skipping Survior – The Races Divided.  I really really dislike the idea of four tribes divided by race.  For the record, I wasn’t fond of the age/gender split last year either.  And that whole male/female thing several seasons ago in the Amazon (I think it was the Amazon), I wasn’t a regular watcher of the show so I never formed an opinion but today, I don’t think I like the idea.

It’s brilliant, I do believe that.  The buzz alone about it is worth its weight in ratings.  The possiblities… when tribes are merged, will members vote along tribal lines because it makes sense or because they are exhibiting racism.  The chores around camp – who is going to do them? And if a person of color avoids the hard work does that indicate the entire race is "lazy"?  Brilliant, definitely.

Unnecessary, also definitely.   Racial and cultural issues and barriers come up in every issue of Survivor.  It’s obvious, whether it’s clearly stated or not.  Racial and cultural alliances are also formed, whether it is clearly stated and obvious or not.  We are a tribal people. Why force the issue unnecessarily from the start.  Isn’t it more interesting to watch people join together on their own or separate from each other on their own?  Don’t we learn more about ourselves and each other by watching a more natural interaction between races and cultures and genders?

Bah!  I’d rather see another dumb all-stars grouping.

Daily Dose of TV – Super Hero

Superheromainshowpic
I miss RJ quite a bit but right at this moment I’m missing her a LOT.  She sooo wants to be a super hero when she grows up.  She can talk to you for hours about which powers she would need to have and what she would use them for and who she would TAKE OUT in order to triumph over good and evil and keep the world safe from total destruction.  RJ would LOVE this TV show.

Daily Dose of Television, Luck & Money

The stars are all properly aligned today so it is safe, maybe even necessary, for me to answer a question I tend to avoid like the plague.  First, about those stars.  1) It’s the heir to the throne’s birthday tomorrow.  2) That millionaire meme says I could be a millionaire 3) I’ve recently discvered a TV show called Windfall.  (Look at this, Money Tracker – Windfall, interesting to see the money spent displayed that way, isn’t it?  I would like one of these in real life, maybe for certain members of my family?  Anyway, the stars are properly aligned and here I go…

What would you do if you (or you and your friends) won the lottery?

Five years ago my immediate answer to this very overused meme question was – give it away.  Today, a lot has happened in my world and I’ve had more time to think about this question than I ever wanted and my answer is… give it away.

Well not exactly.  First a house and of course the various methods of ensuring the children’s education is covered and a wee bit for a good down payment on a house when they are ready.  Paying off the bills.  The "duh" stuff.  Then, here’s something I hadn’t thought of five years ago… healthcare.  Making sure everyone is set for healthcare.  Good insurance and enough of a nest egg to deal with the mounting healthcare costs that come up when you least expect it.  After that, I’d give it away.  All of it.  To friends, family and charity.

What would you do? And have you watched this Windfall show?  I’m considering breaking my no TV in the summer trend and watching it.
