Goodbye Posterous

I guess it’s a good thing that I decided to recommit to blogging since Posterous is closing. I’m not quite as annoyed as I would have been if I hadn’t blogged here almost every day for the last three+ months. Still, I loved Posterous.

It kept me going when I just couldn’t manage to write anywhere else.

It made sharing photos from JMP’s birth, with all of you, so much easier.

It made sharing just about anything, with all of you, so much easier.

I’m trying not to blame Twitter for killing Posterous but it’s hard. Very hard. They could have done so much with it…

Darn it.

Who Works Past 7pm on Valentine’s Day?

Me, that’s who.

And as soon as I finish typing this, I have to clean the kitchen and pull together Elly’s lunch and probably pick up some fallen detritus that’s landed in various places and will bug me because I’m so tired right now.

At the end of every week, usually Friday but sometimes Saturday, I look at my calendar for the next week. And I mentally plan out what my week will look like. I also email Darcie, but that’s another issue entirely, and all of my ducks are in a row. This makes me happy. I like a good schedule. I even like a bad schedule as long as there is some sort of schedule.

But lately, all too often, the schedule has gone to total hell and I find myself working til 7pm on a day that I knew was going to be busy but here’s the bad part — all of the things that were on my list to do today, I didn’t do any of them. Not one. Which means all of those things are still to be done – sometime. When, I do not know since there doesn’t seem to be an extra day tucked into this week to help me out.

I’m going to have to do a better job of scheduling stuff. Or I’m going to have to start scheduling some “Surprise!” stuff into my week to prevent this sort of thing from happening. Yea, that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to schedule two hours of “Surprise!” work into my days and then create a to do list of stuff that can be done when it turns out there’s no “Surprise!” work to be done.

That will totally work, right?

Road Trip

We took off after work to deliver a mini care package to Prince J at Beloit. (Paczkis, Valentine candy, rice wine vinegar, Dr Pepper, an extra iPhone cord, paper towels and I don’t even know what else – oh, Chick-fil-A and waffle fries that were long cold by the time we got there — weird kid, he wanted it even if it was going to be cold, lol.)

Skeeter used to love riding in the car but for the last month or so, she pretty much hates it. Why is that? It can’t be because five hours in the car makes her knee, hip and back hurt — she’s too young to have that problem. I, on the otherhand… exhausted.

I hope the kid enjoys his cold Chick-fil-a and his paczkis.

The Secret of the Fortune Wookie

Hard to believe but I think The Secret of the Fortune Wookie ended up being my favorite in the series, so far.  I wasn’t sure that was going to be the case since Dwight wasn’t in much of the book – but nope, I loved it. I really did. I am appalled by the “Fundamental” program starting at their school in the next quarter but confident that THE FORCE will be with them.

Dangerously Funny

I’m so glad KissChronicles posted her review of Dangerously Funny — if she hadn’t, I may never have read it and that would be a shame.

This was one of the best books I’ve read in forever — but there were two problems. First, I kept stopping to look at old clips from The Smothers Brothers or from Bob Newhart or from Harry Belafonte or… the list of videos I watched, well, it was long. Very long. Second, I really want to re-watch all three seasons of The Smothers Brothers but they aren’t available on Netflix. Wah!

It’s funny — I was only 4 when their show went on the air and it ended when I was 6 but I definitely remember watching it and really liking it. (Also interesting, I didn’t like Laugh In nearly as much but I did like Hee Haw quite a bit.)

Since I was so young, I had no idea how… different… this show was and how important. I’m glad I know, now.

Princess Elizabeth’s Spy

I think I liked Princess Elizabeth’s Spy more than I liked Mr Churchill’s Secretary.  I liked the little princesses. I like Maggie (mostly) without a man – too bad she doesn’t seem to be able to keep from entering relationships with so many of them. Sheesh. The next book is going to be awfully complicated and I’m a little disgruntled about Maggie’s mom… I knew it was coming but still, I’m not loving that. I hope I like it better as it plays out.

The Last Nude

In my quest to read my lesbian fiction, I sometimes stop and grab recently reviewed or mentioned titles from The Lesbrary feed in my feedreader. The Last Nude is one that I added to my library reserve list after seeing it on that blog. I’m glad I did. It was even better than I expected it to be, part one, in particular. Part two… well, I didn’t hate it but it was somewhat unsatisfying but that’s probably the best way to leave a story about Lempicka’s life.

Tamara de Lempicka was fascinating, in this book and in everything I’ve ever read about her… it would have been fascinating to meet her.  Here’s the page that shows her work, during the primary period of the book. La belle Rafaëla  in red is better than the green.

The Birthday Box

This is Michelle’s birthday box. Well, she calls it her birthday box, I generally call it Michelle’s box. It’s got stuff that I tucked away from her childhood.

All of my kids have a box like this. Jenn has hers. I think I still have Chris’s with me. Michelle usually has hers but she decided to leave it here when she moved to Philly because she’s living in a super small apartment. That made me kind of sad because Michelle is the child who looks at her box every year. On her birthday.

Since she doesn’t have her box with her today, I thought I’d go through the box for her. Take some pictures. Talk about what’s in there. Celebrate her birthday, long distance-like.

Her baby book is here.

Baby clothes — she was adorable in all of these.

Books she loved and book reports of books she loved. Like One Yellow Lion, Barney, Brown Bear (though she really liked Polar Bear better) It’s Just Me Emily, and A Pony for Linda.

Poetry, a lot of poetry and poetry journals.

Writing samples and her first ‘zines!

Girl Scout stuff.

Bowling and Cheer stuff, too.

Awards, certificates, ribbons, plaques.

Art — a lot of art.

Especially, drawings of Pepper and Serano.

Happy Birthday, Michelle Belle. Next year, you’ll have the box to go through all by yourself but I enjoyed going through it this year. *sniff* 23 years. *sniff*
