A lot better, in fact. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is the best Asian historical novel I’ve read in a very, very long time. Maybe ever. It’s also one of the better female relationship books. I was surprised. I didn’t expect a book THIS good. I’d like to pick it up right now, and read it all over again.

You’re right! That was a wonderful book. I really enjoyed it. I listened to it on audiobook last year when I was driving back to Virginia from California. 🙂
Ok, I totally didn’t feel that way about it. I believe my response was “meh” and “I don’t get why everyone is gushing over it.”
I’m not sure I would have read this if it hadn’t been one of my book club’s choices. So thank goodness for book clubs that sometimes make you read something different. I loved learning about the cultural aspects of this time in China, and the friendship, with its ups and downs, its endurance and misunderstandings is timeless and borderless. This story really touched my heart.
