I’m about to do my daily duty and vote for a few of my favorite blogs in the 2007 Weblog Awards. (Yes, you can vote once a day in each category.) This is who I’m voting for, and why.
Best LGBT – Mombian. I like Pam’s House Blend but she wins everything. I adore Susie Bright and wish there was some other more “right” category for her blog, but there isn’t, so I just can’t vote for her in this one. Darn it. I also like Republic of T (and read it every day) but Mombian is the finalist I read every single day – and link to often.
Best Diarist – Dooce. I know, she wins everything – even stuff she maybe shouldn’t. I thought long and hard about this and of all of the finalist, hers is the blog that I look forward to every single day – whether it’s a story about George! or a picture of Chuck or whatever. I still love her blog and until I don’t, or someone comes close to drawing that much of my attention, she gets my vote in this category.
Best Online Community – Duh. BlogHer. I suspect you don’t me to list the reasons. Though I could, if you like.
And in the Best Parenting Blog – hands down Notes From the Trenches. No competition, at all, for my vote. None. Even if she did deceive us with that whole Big Yellow House thing. And she beats her kids and forces them to eat pork chops and do slave labor while she sits around eating chocolate and chatting with other slacker moms on the phone. Yea. I want to be Chris when I grow up. Except all of those boys? Err no, I’ll stick with my six now that I think about it.
Who are you voting for, and why?
thanks for the adoring glances, Denise! these categories are insane, but is sure is intriguing to find out about new people I hadn’t heard of before. you’ve got me taking a look at those parenting blogs now…I wonder if they’ll survive into the teenage period…
agree with you about dooce. she’s just a remarkable writer, which is what all blogging boils down to!
I only read one of the lit-blogs nominated. I find that a bit depressing because I read FANTASTIC lit blogs. Actually I found in most categories I hadn’t heard of most of the blogs – most of the time I was lucky if I knew one of them.
I am voting for Notes in the trenches also.
In the health/med issues I am voting for Stirrup Queens but that is because I am apart of the community that she is building.
The other catagories I didn’t really know any of the blogs nominated but of course voted for blogher!
Thanks for your votes, Denise! I think I have no real chance against Pam and some of the other high-traffic (and worthy) blogs, but it’s an honor to be among them, and it makes me appreciate each vote!
To Susie’s point: It’s impossible to say where I’ll be in nine years, when my son turns 13, but I’d like to think the blog will evolve with us. Here’s hoping….
And yes, the categories are hardly scientific. Mombian could have gone in the parenting category just as easily. Ah, well. Still happy to be part of it.
