So, I’m finished with my holiday shopping. Except for one item for Prince J, one item for RJ and one item for E (and of course the converse high tops from 2004 that Christopher wants which I will never find). Those three items I still need to get, they are easy and I’m really just waiting for my daily schedule to allow me to pick these items up. So I’m finished.
Now that I am finished with my holiday shopping, you would think I would be all happy and rubbing it in the faces of every one of you who are still suffering. But really, that’s not what this post is about. This is about me remembering why I do not like to finish my holiday shopping early.
Now, there is nothing to do.
Oh sure there is decorating and baking and crafting and wrapping and stuff like that. But without holiday shopping, it feels weird – like I’m not doing what I’m supposed to be doing. This happens to me every year that I finish early. I find myself at loose ends. Worse yet, I find myself shopping anyway – buying more gifts and more gifts and more gifts.
This year, I refuse to do that. I am finished and I am staying finished. Aren’t I? Bah, this is worse than quitting smoking!
You are NOT complaining about this. You who harrasses me for continuing to shop and have last minute things every year. You who shops early every year. Nope. You can just be quiet miss efficient. You start being all pushy about shopping early and drive me nuts and then you finish and expect everyone else to be done and so you can just live with your done early problems. If you waited til Black Friday to start actual shopping you wouldn’t have this problem. No matter what you might think about it being all about you, your birthday is NOT the official start to the Christmas shopping season.
Did you buy the book Pick Me Up by David Roberts for your kids? If not, you’re probably not done. I blogged about it on my library blog. Go check it out, make a trip to Borders. There’s always room for one more gift. Done, bah humbug!
The one year that I finished really early I ended up buying more & more stuff. Everyone got lots of perfect gifts & I got broke, lol.
Ooooops! My name disappeared! That’s me above.
Katie, I saw the book you blogged but I don’t think it’s right for any of our kids – except maybe RJ but she’s not going to be here for six months so, no – not this year. I was thinking it would work for my brother but I’m ummm done, so no – umm I don’t think I’m buying that.
TW – I know my birthday doesn’t kick off Christmas shopping, YOUR birthday does. Ha. I’m gonna whine if I want to whine because it is all about me, ask the kids – they’ll tell you.
LOL skeeter, that is not happening to us this year. It just is not happening.
