Weird, Weird, Weird

I wish someone had told me that the first 20 or so pages of Emotionally Weird were so insane and boring… getting through those first 20ish pages was hell. (I should start reading the Amazon reviews for these things) It took me 10 days to get through that section and then just a little more than a day to finish the rest of the book.

It was, indeed, emotionally weird – and weird in general. Pretty amusing and fun little book. Too bad about the beginning, though.

  1. Don’t read Julie and Julia by Julie Powell. I hit rock bottom of my reading with that book. It took me about 2 months to get through it was just so boring. I wanted to know more about Julia Child and my mother and grandmother are gourmet cooks so I was very interested and the book was a #1 quirkiest read. Whomever rated it obviously didn’t read it!

  2. You’re kidding? I love Julia Child and I was going to read it. In fact, we may have just picked it up on our last trip to the library – if not it is coming up on our reserve list really quickly.

    How disappointing…

  3. I read the amazon reviews for Emotionally Weird. The fact that it was described as very post-modern frightened me. lol

I liked Julie and Julia but I wasn’t reading it to find out about Julia Child. I was reading it to find out who would be insane enough to try to do all those recipes in a year.

Rachel have you read Julis Child’s My Life in France? I just picked it up from the library a week or two ago. Haven’t read it yet but I might pick it up next.

  4. Re: Julia Child – I heard Julie and Julia was a somewhat tribute to Julia Child- the book- hardly- but it was interesting her recipes but the story itself was missing something…lots of something. I read it mainly because I love quirky reads i.e. Tom Robbins and thought it would have more to do with J.C. but I found it to be quite boring. Let me know about My Life in France… 🙂
