Reverse #Readathon Opening Survey

Tis the damn season… for a readathon. I was going to stick with the original date of Harry Potter’s birthday and just read books by trans authors or with trans characters but life happened and that idea fell apart. Maybe I’ll do it for the October readathon in honor of coming out month? I’m going to try and make that a priority. (Alexa: Remind me on 10/11 that I’m going to read Trans books for readathon.)

Anyway, on to this reverse readathon… not an ideal time. TW had her capsule endoscopy and we lost a lot of work hours driving back and forth for that + WDW dropped a Remy preview for passholders that turned into a big enough clusterfuck that I cancelled my WDW resort reservation in October in favor of a stay at the Dolphin. (First they ditch Must Do Stacey and now this… not the way to get my 5K in 2022 for the Galactic Cruiser!) But, I digress… the later afternoon trip to GNV for the capsule endoscopy meant that I was able to pick up a Fresh Market curbside order for snacks! That’s a good thing because we had no other good snack options because pandemic and mask-less/vax-less community = crap for food options locally. They were out of a lot of what I ordered but I over-ordered so we’ll be FINE. Yay. On to the official survey now that I’m done rambling along here.

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

Mask-less/Vax-less small town north Florida, again. Still. The COVID infection rate was high in 2020 and it’s higher in 2021. (And the library sucks… coincidence, I think not…)

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

Good question – I think the Wally Funk biography.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

Complicated question since I’m not 100% sure what I ended up getting and what was out of stock… probably the curried chicken salad and the raspberry peach loaf? (not at the same time, probably.)

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I’m under-employed, still… do you need an online community manager, social media manager, or online reputation manager? I’m your person… message me. lol

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

I’ve participated in the last zillion readathons… the thing I’m doing differently this time is I’m going old-school and focusing only on print books, no e-books. It’s been more than a year since that was the case! Even before COVID and the library closure, we were shifting to primarily e-books. We’ve built up a tiny collection of print books over the last year or so and I feel like focusing on those. It’s going to be fun – let’s see if I can stick to that plan. If not, I have plenty of e-books waiting on my Kindle or on Libby.

Onward to the snacks and the books. Have fun, readers!

  1. 1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Our epic screened porch at home sweet home near a good library in the masked university tree city with hospitals brimming with delta variant surrounded by a sea of red.

    2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

Trick question since I am in the middle of my own epic 10000+ page reading event – a reread of all the books in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander universe, in chronological order – I have made it from 1744 to 1756 and have just started the novella Custom of the Army to be followed by Scottish Prisoner, both about the antics of Lord John Grey, the gay British Army officer and step-father to Jamie Fraser’s son William.

    3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

I don’t snack anymore, BUT I have enought leftover mjuddarah with extra caramelized onions for both Jeff and I which means I don’t have to cook dinner – so I can read more!

    4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

Forcibly retired by covid – recently got rid of a lifetime of extra weight – hate needles but get accu four times a week for second bout of Bell’s Palsy – recently relearned how to kiss due to recurrence of aforementioned Bell’s.

    5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

My first time – looking forward to time with familiar characters.

One question – how long does the readathon last?

    Love to all –
    Stefanie

  2. LOL you need to join over at https://deweysreadathon.wordpress.com/ it’s a 24 hour readathon and this one started at 8pm ET, on Friday, August 6.

Yay for you for participating. (And snacks come in all sizes, shapes, and styles – including good healthy foods. The point is really choosing foods that taste good and require little to no effort to make/clean up after so you can focus on reading.)
