Daily Dose of Stuff – Monday

MondayjuneSort of lame today, (particularly in comparison to Lee’s What is this doing in my house, Monday entry),  but I’m tired and The Moonstone is bugging me so I went with the closest oddity to me.   Yes, these are in my bedroom, leaning against the bedside table.  One is about 4′ and the other 3′.   There are a few more, in the 6′ range, in the garage and some in the backyard.

TW bought these a few years ago when she was working out how to build her square foot gardens.  These pieces of trim, or whatever they are suppose to be, never got used in the garden and they’ve been in my way ever since.

Every morning when I put the dogs out with their food, these things fall over on me or slip just enough that I don’t notice they’ve slipped ’til I try and close the door.  I just sigh, or curse under my breath, and move them.

I preferred it when they were in the garage or outside.  Last week they wound up in our bathroom – in the shower, to be exact.  TW was using them as RAMPS for ELVIS.  Elvis is either really dumb or really smart and showed no interest in TW’s constructions.  So the wood is out of the shower and in our bedroom instead.

Joy.

NextweekThree of these nutcrackers belong to Jenn and two belonged to TW’s dad and now seem to belong to Prince J.  What’s scarey is Prince J already has about 200 of those nutcrackers in his room and is making noise about wanting the bulk of them to live somewhere else.  What are we going to do with a couple hundred nutcrackers if he evicts them?  I’m not even sure why we have these five on the top of the entertainment center in the living room.  I think I’m going to ship Jenn’s back to her, that organization clutter dude is always talking about how you shouldn’t hold onto other people’s clutter, right?

Hmmmm I didn’t have anything pre-planned and had to wander around the house looking for something interesting or odd to share.  It was kind of hard, believe it or not.  Well hard until I hit the garage and kicked this bag of piano parts brought home by Michelle last month.  She’s going to "make something" out of this stuff.  Someday.

I’m jealous of Lee’s What is this doing in my house, Monday entry.  No fair! She should definitely send those to Florida!

This little toy I’m sharing today has history, or more importantly, memories.  This was my grandmother’s and everytime we would visit, we’d pull it out of the blue cabinet and we’d make a huge mess with the chips and the decks of cards stored along with it.  Grandma didn’t have a whole lot of toys specifically for her grandchildren.  In fact she didn’t have any.  We played with her toys – the poker chips, huge jewely boxes of Sarah Coventry, her weird stuffed animals, odd little gadgets that I never understood but was fascinated by – and of course, the rubber/plastic fruit.

The "old fashioned" chips are missing from this but the chip caddy still makes me smile an awful lot – and that’s why this weird thing is in my house – finally! (My brother finally handed it over to me on my last trip to Charleston.  Now if he’d give up my secretary…)

Daily Dose of Stuff – Monday

Nuthinfancy is on vacation so I may be the only one posting "What is this doing in my house, Monday" but that’s ok because my entry is good.  And she’ll be sorry she went on vacation before seeing it… but first, some background so you understand why my entry is so "good…

Monday night I had some really odd dreams.  One of them was about, well, it was about Jesus.  I won’t go into the gory details but I will tell you that throughout the dream E and her rabbit sang "Jesus Loves Me".  I don’t think I’ve ever dreamt about Jesus before.  (have you?)  I have attributed the odd dream to the reading of Whale Season on Sunday (I finished it on Monday).  No, I’m not heading toward some spiritual crisis or finding my religion or anything else so don’t bother suggesting it.  Anyway, it was just weird enough that I didn’t really want to talk about it.  I did, however, find myself singing "Jesus loves me" off and on for a couple of days.  Also weird since that hasn’t happened since E was gifted with her Jesus loves me singing rabbit a year ago, at Easter of course.

Anyway, I was coming off of that weird dream and the weirder fixation on the song on Wednesday when today’s What’s this doing in my house Monday item popped onto my radar.  I headed to the backyard with the dogs, for some fresh air and to water the garden in hopes of keeping myself from saying a lot of things I didn’t really want or need to say.  Sounds like a good idea, right?  Right.  As I went out the back door and stepped over Chanel’s dog food bowl I noticed something IN Chanel’s bowl.  Odd.  Jakey has never allowed a trace of food to be leftover in either his bowl or hers so I looked more closely.  What the… What the heck is JOSEPH doing in Chanel’s bowl??

Stuff_002_4
Yes, it’s Joseph.  From a nativity.  It looks a little familiar but most Joseph’s from the nativity look alike to me, so I’m really not 100% sure this Joseph did come from one of our nativities.  I mean it must have, otherwise how would it have gotten into Chanel’s bowl?  But then again, how did it get there in the first place?  Four months after Christmas? When TW insists all decorations (shhh she’s troubled about last week’s Christmas tree photos) are put away before New Years?

OK maybe the dogs dug into one of the decoration boxes without me noticing it.  That could happen because they are stored in the garage and the garage is a mess.  Let’s assume that happened.  Why just this one piece? Jake is a very thorough dog.  When he gets into something, he REALLY gets into it.  So why aren’t more decorations floating around the house?  Let’s pretend this was just "found" by one of the dogs and we somehow didn’t manage to get it put away to start with… so why no chew marks? teeth marks? drool?  on it?  I know you can’t tell from the picture but it’s really in ok shape considering it has definitely been removed from a nativity where it was once "glued" to the manger.

It’s in my house and probably belongs here because TW has a fondness for the nativity.  But it’s weird that it appeared, out of nowhere, last week, in a dog food bowl.

I’m not sure you can even tell what these little things are, can you?  They are tiny Christmas trees and they are not only in my house they are displayed on my desk, right this minute, and it is April.  Shhhh don’t tell TW, she’ll get all weirded out over the bad luck of having Christmas decorations out after New Years.

The little kids and Michelle and the 1/2 child made these little trees right before Christmas.  For some reason Michelle and the 1/2 child put theirs on my desk and they’ve been there ever since.  Should I toss them into the trash? Send them upstairs with Michelle?  Drop them into the Christmas ornament bin? Or just leave them be?

I wonder if I’m the first to post What is this doing in my house Monday this week?

Monday snuck up on me and now I’ve forgotten what I had planned to share for today’s What is this doing in my house Monday photo.  I guess that’s ok because next week I suspect the car seat will no longer be in the living room … why is it in the living room at all? why has it been in the living room for more than two weeks? what is that thing doing in our house????

I took it out of the car when Michelle, TW and I went to Charleston a couple of weekends ago and it’s been sitting in the "breastbed chair" ever since.  It stayed in the chair all weekend long.  Weird that the only time someone attempted to move it was during the Easter egg hunt and I wouldn’t let TW move it then because the Easter Bunny had hidden an egg underneath it.

Moving it out to the garage is on my list of things to do this week… What is THAT thing doing in your house?  Share the pictures and the stories.

Monday_001_1Some of you noticed this little Precious Moments figurine behind the Gourd Girl I posted last week and yes it’s a definitely "What’s this doing in my house" item.

It’s in the house, and on TW’s dresser, because it was a Christmas gift from the woman who took over the care and feeding of the "three witches" when TW moved to her new office.  The new caretaker is very nice to TW and TW has been very helpful to her during the transition.  Thus the PM figurine gifting.

Too bad I can’t manage to get to the box in the garage with some more PM items – owned by me… that’s another "What’s this doing in my house" post to look foward to!
Lee has already played, why don’t you play along too?!  What’s THAT doing in your house????

The real question is not necessarily what’s this doing in my house because we do have children and children have stuffed animals.  The real question probably isn’t even what’s this doing in my bedroom either since both TW and I have stuffed animals in here that belong to us.  The question is a combination of the two with emphasis on "this"… What is THIS doing in my house?  It’s here because my darn daughter has not managed to get pregnant yet.  I can’t really complain much since up until a few months ago I’d have had a fit if she’d called to tell me she was pregnant.  And almost immediately after I’d given my blessing, the sperm donor headed off to Baghdad or wherever it is he’s playing with guns in the heat for the president.

OK so the elephant is not directly related to pregnancy except that TW and I saw him at Walmart in December of 2004 and I did not buy him.  I almost immeidately felt regret but when we next went to Walmart, it was gone.  A year goes by and Michelle and I did our mommy and me Christmas shopping trip and there it was at Walmart.  I bought it.  And I’ve pretty much regretted it ever since because the thing is big.  And it takes up a lot of room.  And it looks at you with those weird eyes.  And it’s a reminder that I’m still not a grandmother nor likely to be one soon and that stinks because then I start thinking I should just have my own baby and forget about grandchildren.  And that idea also stinks.  So, what IS this elephant doing in my house????

Looks like I’m first this week – where is Lee?  Why aren’t you blogging about weird stuff that is in your house?
