Daily Dose of Stuff – Monday

P1010003_1This is a Dr Pepper can.  Well it isn’t anymore.  Now it is a mangled and destroyed piece of trash that was at one time a Dr Pepper can.  It was photographed today, on the floor of a child’s bedroom.  This is the second or maybe third such can that has been found on this child’s floor in this type of condition.

At first, I found it amusing.  Teens of a certain age do this sort of thing.  Now, I’m not finding it quite as amusing.  The last thing we need is a torn up Dr Pepper can on the floor.  Not to mention the messyness, what about the safety issues involved in the destroying of the can and the leaving it on the floor for anyone brave enough to walk in barefeet in that particular bedroom to step on.  Not that I think anyone except child in question is umm brave enough to walk in barefeet in that particular bedroom.

What IS this doing in my house and why does THIS type of thing keep appearing? And, would anyone care to lay odds on when it will happen again?

Crutches
You’re looking at this picture and saying "duh, you hurt your foot and that’s what those are doing in your house" aren’t you?  Well that’s only partly accurate.  I didn’t get these crutches from the ER on Saturday, they’ve been in the house for several years.  TW’s sister left them here when she came for a visit in 2002 and I’ve wanted to get rid of them for ages.  This weekend though, I was glad I hadn’t tossed them out or freecycled them like I had planned.

You never know when something in the "what’s this doing in my house Monday" category might turn into a much needed and appreciated item.  What’s in your house this Monday?

Last year TW and Michelle planted gourd seeds in the square foot garden.  The seeds grew and grew and grew and grew all of the way up over the roof of the patio.  We promptly forgot about them until someone looked out of the bathroom window or RJ’s window (I can’t remember which) and saw not only the vines but gourds.  On the roof.  And there they stayed until FINALLY the 1/2 child climbed out there and brought them in last week.

They were originally planted to Michelle could make some project or another with them.  A gourd bowl or instrument or something.  Now she is acting like she never wanted to do this.  Ha.  She’s doing it alright and Lee has nicely provided us with the cleaning instructions so she can do it properly.

Lest you think I’m throwing everything away, selling everything or donating it all to charity, here’s a photo of one box of junk that isn’t leaving the house.  It is, however, getting boxed up and put in a closet or the garage.  I can’t be expected to get rid of all of my toys and all of my junk at once, right?

I think I have three boxes of Denise toys and Denise junk to "save" and about twice that is leaving the house – one way or another.  Sniff, sniff.  It’s hard letting go.

What weirdness is in your house?  And why is it there?

For the last two weekends we’ve been busy little bees, here at the Flamingo House.  TW and I have been cleaning under beds, cleaning out closets, cleaning off shelves and just generally de-cluttering.  Four bedrooms are finished, living room and dining room are finished.  We still need to deal with the office aka library and the garage.

This photo is full of stuff from our house, it’s not trash (that would be another photo which I’m not going to take) but it is junk.  Fun junk, but junk just the same.  Most of which I just shake my head at and wonder "What is this doing in my house".

So, it has begun.  The deep cleaning I promised TW we would do in July.  It’s begun very very slowly but enough that it made TW nervous, (which I rather enjoyed since it is usually she who makes me nervous with her cleaning).  This first box is the start of it.  This box of "Denise Toys" that have been accumulating in our bedroom for years.  I’m not sure what is going to happen to this box of toys.  The first step is the boxing up, the next is the decision about what will happen to the contents.  Stay tuned.

What weird stuff is in your house, and why is it there?

This is hard to see particularly since I wanted to photograph it in its "natural" environment… It’s a platter, maybe a silver platter that is really tarnished?  I’m not really sure.  It belongs to TW and she’s not here to ask.  It’s also too dark in the garage to really examine it well without a flashlight and I’m too lazy to do that anyway.  It’s also too heavy to really investigate properly so, this will have to do.

During one of the unpacking processes or during one of the garage clean up days, someone hung this platter up in the garage, between the washer and dryer.  It’s hung from a white wire shelf with a very thick silver chain.  Every now and then some funny teenager uses it as a gong to annoy me or annoy the animals.  The first time they did it, I was amused.  Now, not so amused.

What kind of weird stuff is in your house?  Is it as weird as this?  Or as weird as Em’s?

June_003These are tins.  Lots and lots of tins.  There are more tins in various places around the house.  Far too many to photograph.  I really should put them all in one place and take another photo just so you can see what happens when I say I like something.  What happens is TW goes into acquisition overdrive.  No tin was left unacquired, simply because I said I liked tins.  I’ve begun throwing out tins, slowly and quietly.  I am hoping to get rid of some more, a little more quickly and a little less quietly, at a yard sale sometime soon.

Tins.  I like them but I don’t need or want 500 of them, ya know?  Even if it is sweet of her to acquire them for me.  What weirdness do you have in your house?
