Edie & Melissa sittin in a tree…

OK OK maybe not. But still, they’ll be on stage together – TONIGHT – and TW and I will be there to see it. Ah the memories! Ah the good ole days! I wonder if Edie will sing Disco Ball Heart? Probably not, but I bet she’ll sing Violently – which is almost as good. Anyone want to lay odds on whether Melissa will sing Drive? ha.

Edie Carey and Melissa Ferrick – go listen!

I’ve been tagged. How uninteresting!

If I didn’t like Elana so much, I’d ignore this game of tag. But I do like Elana, quite a bit actually, so I’m going to try and come up with six uninteresting things about me. It’s really hard because I’m such a fascinating human being.

1) I have a hard time sleeping late in the morning.
2) I am not a night owl and would prefer the light out at 9pm.
3) I’ve become more of a home body as I’ve gotten older. (Or maybe I’m just happier with my home life than before?)
4) I haven’t owned a car in years but I almost always drive when we go places.
5) I rarely use bookmarks for websites that I visit regularly. I tend to type the url every time.
6) I’ve been spammed 62 times today by moving companies. (Not exaggerating.)

Now I’m supposed to tag six people and leave comments on six people’s blogs telling them that they’ve been tagged. But, I’m violating the rules. I have no idea who has played and who hasn’t (except Zan, I know she played because her uninteresting things were interesting.) So go play if you like. (Joy? Sharon? Lorena? Karen? Lee? RE? Gam? Michelle Belle? You in the back?)

Overheard from the Roof

The house behind ours got a nice shiny new roof last week. Well, no it isn’t shiny, it’s that orangey yellowy goldeny color roof. But it is nice and new and the roofers were interesting, errr, entertaining, errr, something else.

They don’t seem to have much appreciation for Senator Obama. There were “fried chicken and watermelon” jokes. And then there was some discussion about Obama “not being American”.

Yea, I know. I wanted to yell “Dudes, you can’t run if you aren’t American, duh.” I also wondered at how one minute they could be talking about Obama’s “obvious love of fried chicken and watermelon” and in the next calling him un-American. If fried chicken and watermelon don’t scream “American”, I don’t know what does.

These roofers know a lot about Nascar. And professional wrestling. And some sort of kung fu things. Also, they seem to have a fondness for Calgon because out of the blue, two or three yelled “Calgon take me away!” — that sort of scared me, even more than the Obama thing.

Also, there was much questioning of manhood up there on the roof. The preferred method was related to calling each other homosexuals, in a variety of ways, and talking about which had most recently “been on his knees”.

Those roofers… they were something else.

I have the right to destroy myself

No this isn’t a direct quote from the birthday girl, or any other teen in the house. I have the right to destroy myself is the title of the book I chose to read after attempting Darkmans. Ha. I went from one really weird book to another.

Thank goodness “I have the right…” was much shorter, much easier to read, and much more interesting. Also, the “message board member” in me is tempted to put “trigger” in the subject line, not because I’m going to write anything really triggering here but because the book could totally trigger self-harmers.

But it is interesting. Is there one “thing” – persona, spirit, angel from hell – who wanders around helping those who have decided to kill themselves? Some common “thing” guiding us, like a guardian angel, because we do have the right to make that choice and when we decide, we should have help.

It’s interesting, isn’t it?

Daily Dose of Cupcakes

Happy 18th Birthday

The birthday girl came home from an all-nighter to change clothes and get her stuff before heading to school to take a math test. We nudged her into the kitchen to check out her cupcakes and she giggled.

And then she said… “How did you know I love chocolate cupcakes with white icing?”

Errr I have been this child’s mother for 18 full years and I have baked her so many batches of cupcakes for birthdays and other events that it would be impossible for me to NOT know that this is the only kind of cupcake that Michelle likes.

Kids are clueless.
