I think I spent my entire Tuesday on the phone. I made my last phone call around 7:30 last night and decided I should extend my phone day by calling Jenn to see how her drive to Charlotte had gone – and to see what plans she and my mother had made for her visit. It’s a good thing I called.
Jenn had not called her grandmother because “I was waiting for her to call me. And besides, I don’t have her phone number.” Umm hello! Grandma is old, you should not rely on her to call YOU. And also you’ve known you were going to Charlotte for ages, if you didn’t have her phone number why didn’t you ask? Geez, the kid does this stuff just to make me crazy.
So I gave Jenn the number and instructed her to hang up the phone and call her immediately. Apparently she did because I got an email from my mother shortly afterwards with a plea for birthday related help. Because my mother is also trying to make me crazy.
My mother thought Jenn was only in Charlotte for one day, Monday. So she mailed Jenn’s birthday gift to her home on Monday afternoon, leaving her with no gift to present when they see each other. (And anyone who has grandchildren, particular granddaughters born in August, knows they do not see the child empty handed. That just would not do.)
Michelle and I brainstormed gift ideas and I called my mother, who did not answer. She returned my call shortly afterwards and informed me that besides thinking Jenn was only going to be in town for one day, she did not have Jenn’s number to call and arrange a dinner. Geez.
I think I’m getting everyone in my family an address book and I’m going to gift it to them with all of the addresses and phone numbers already filled in. And, when we all gather together at Christmas I’m going to confiscate everyone’s cell phone and enter all of the phone numbers, email addresses and addresses into the phones.
My family is crazy and they are making ME crazy.
There should be some nice web 2.0 app that allows families to share contact info/birthdays/clothing sizes. I am sure I have seen one. If not, I should develop it as my entry into the .com “bubble”
Wait, I wonder if Famster would work.
My mother in law used to do that on a calendar she’d give out at Christmas. It would have updated addresses and phone numbers along with the birthdays and anniversaries all filled out. She doesn’t do it any more. Probably got sick of everyone moving all the time.
