Daily Dose of Advice – Underwear

The only advice I can really give you about underwear is don’t bother wearing it.  I know that doesn’t work for a lot of you and that’s ok.  Maybe in your next life you will have seen the light and found the freedom but until then, I support you.  And because I support you I’m going to send you to my friend the sassymonkey.  She understands underwear and she has ALMOST convinced me that I need to rush out to pantie shop.  That ALMOST convinced me thing is huge!  I don’t do underwear and I do not shop.  That tells you just how GOOD she is with the underwear talk.  And, I know from experience, she knows how to give panties as gifts, too.

Where was I? OH yea, Sassymonkey and underwear, go over there and learn from the mistress.  Just don’t let her get you into trouble.  Along with wisdom beyond her years, she likes to cause a stir… odd, since she’s Canadian… 😉

Daily Dose of Art – Supa!

TW and I met Supafine in the Blogher chatroom last summer.  None of us were able to attend.  All of us were grouchy about it.  This year, we are all attending!  Yea us!  The reason I’m talking about this right now is because Supafine is supa! and fine!  She sent TW a present!

Supa had a little fun gamey contest awhile back and the winners got art!  Photos taken by the talented mommy of Owen, Ms Supa fine!  I entered because TW needed art from Supa — art from Baltimore (I’m sure it was the cheese that won it for us).  Art arrived yesterday.  TW is happy and she rambled about Baltimore because that’s what TW does.  She started to ramble about Supa’s niceness and poof she was off.

So anyway, Supa is cool.  Owen is adorable and I’m hoping the next time she has a contest she’ll give him away.  (Cheese is the always the winning answer with Supafine contests, I’m a shooo in to win!)  Go look at her photos of Owen.  (The videos of Owen are even cuter than the photos) Go read her blog.  You could click her donation button too – Blogher trips aren’t cheap, folks.  Really – go visit her and tell her how terrific she is.  (she has this great idea for a Baby Einstein Drinking Game – anyone want to fund that project? It’s a winner! Great investment opportunity…)

Daily Dose of Friends – Memories

Hi Food Julia.  🙂

Isn’t it funny how old friends seem to arrive back in your life in batches?  Does that happen to you or just to me?

First, I noticed some fancy lawyer spent an inordinate amount of time on my blog.  Hmmm.  Made me a wee bit nervous til I googled and then I laughed – jordanplusmom aka jorvia.  Arrived by searching my "old name" and "iVillage".  Ha.  It was fun to chat with her on AIM the next day, see photos of her far too grown up babies and just catch up a bit.  It had been close to four years since I last spoke with her.

Then Food Julia who I noticed was visiting me today.  TW actually tracked her down and has been talking to her which is as it should be, isn’t it? All of that bonding over dirty girl lip gloss and foodie stuff and poetry and well whatever else they bonded over.

And then BAM out of the blue catnmouse came back home and is happily chatting away about riding naked and wandering around with rainbow people.  It’s almost like she never left.

When I did my registration for BlogHer I had to put something down about how blogging had made a difference in my life and I briefly talked about connecting with new and interesting people and staying in touch with old friends.  The old friends part has been really cool lately.

Daily Dose of Chicken – Religion

Poor Sassymonkey has a problem. Some chicken that I, vegetarian that I am, though sounded yummy gave her some tummy troubles. I can relate. When I eat meat, (yea I know, vegetarians aren’t suppose to eat meat – sue me), I have that problem too. It doesn’t usually happen with chicken though.

BK Whoppers, Big Macs, Arby’s Beef n Cheddar – bad for tummy. A bit of roasted chicken, no problem. (Yea, I know. Vegetarians aren’t suppose to eat meat. I’m sorry you’re confused – get over it. It’s my life, my stomach, my stand!)

I wonder why chicken bugs the monkey girl. It’s lean. Relatively easy on every tummy. Hmmm. Maybe God is trying to tell her she needs to find religion and do it through the chicken?

Daily Dose of Christmas Cheer – Bah!

OK this is coming to you courtesy of Heresiology but is dedicated to my friend Karen. Please do read the post, it’s a nice Solstice celebration recap. And at the bottom, this classic…. (Maybe I’ll get the little kids to sing it tonight while I record them on the iRiver…)

‘God rest ye, Unitarians’
To the tune of “God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen”

Gods rest ye, Unitarians, let nothing you dismay;
Remember there’s no evidence there was a Christmas Day;
When Christ was born is just not known, no matter what they say,
O, Tidings of reason and fact, reason and fact,
Glad tidings of reason and fact.

Our current Christmas Customs come from Persia and from Greece,
From solstice celebrations of the ancient Middle East.
This whole darn Christmas spiel is just another pagan feast,
O, Tidings of reason and fact, reason and fact,
Glad tidings of reason and fact.

There was no star of Bethlehem, there was no angels’ song;
There couldn’t have been wise men for the trip would take too long.
The stories in the Bible are historically wrong,
O, Tidings of reason and fact, reason and fact,
Glad tidings of reason and fact!

Daily Dose of Friends – Search

Earlier today, Brenda buzzed me to ask me for blogging information and ideas. A few hours later, Snead buzzed me with “What’s a doppio?” I wouldn’t be surprised if someone buzzes me before the end of the day to ask me how many calories are in some food or another. This is what my friends and coworkers do. This is how they see me.

Blogger. Coffee Freak. Diet Guru.

None of their questions are all that difficult. I’m not generally so darn busy that I can’t answer a simple question. I can’t say I’ve been tempted (very often) to respond with “I’m not your darn search engine”. I just find it amusing when folks do this. It makes me wonder how often I might do that to people.

It takes all of thirty seconds to type “doppio” into google and find the definition. It takes just a moment to pull up some nice calorie counting website and find out how many calories are in green bean casserole. So what leads people to buzz me to ask those questions rather than run a search? What leads me to ask people questions rather than pop open a search?

I’m not complaining, ladies, I’m just pondering the idea out loud. Wondering when and why I choose to ask someone and when and why I simply open a search and find the info myself.

I wonder if there’s some sort of study about this…
