Daily Dose of Blogathon – Charity

I had planned to participate in the Blogathon this year but it is at the same time as the Blogher conference.  I can’t manage to attend and blog for 24 hours at the same time.  🙁  I’m going to try and drop by throughout the day (and night) though to keep these bloggers company, and thank them for their efforts.  I’m also going to send in a donation.  You’re going to send donations, too.  It’s the least you can do.

Tricia is blogging for the Crohns & Colitis Foundation.  She’s got a good blog and I appreciate her efforts very much.

This one is totally and completely unplanned but it seems like fate so I’ll be sending a donation…. Flamingo Legion is blogging for DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue.  How fate-like is THAT, after all?

Seeworthy is blogging for GLSEN and I always donate to GLESN.  You should donate too.  Kids are important.

Last but not least, Random Again is blogging for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  I’ll be making a donation in honor of Amanda and Eric.

Who are you going to support during Blogathon 2006?  You will be showing your support, won’t you?

Daily Dose of Blogher – To Do List

I’m feeling pretty good about my lack of things "to do" before Blogher.  Everyone is all bent out of shape over what to wear, what shoes to wear, buying bathing suits and new clothes and which purse to pack and blah blah blah.  Those things are so totally not on my "to do list".  I cannot imagine how I would manage to even get to Blogher if I had to deal with those things.

I will show up in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, maybe badger’s naked woman t-shirt, and my Reboks or maybe my Tevas and that will be that.  I will not have a purse but will have my laptop bag.  I’m considering deodorant though, thanks to Mrs Kennedy.  I’m not going out to buy a "shell" but deodorant, I can do that.

Update 7/25… I’m about to add to the list, darn it.  One word of advice, don’t wait til the last minute to print your business cards (or other fun giveaways) because something will invariably go wrong.  Grrr.  I should really learn to NOT procrastinate.

1) Clean the Eli Wiesel and the Alex Grey and the Catie Curtis and the Terri Clark shows off of the iRiver to make room for recording sessions at Blogher.
2) Track down the charger for my camera.
3) Write 3 pieces for work.  Write 1 for Clubmom.
4) Call Jenn and make sure she knows I will be out of town.
5) Make sure Michelle and Chris have my itinerary and phone numbers (on Protopage and paper)

6) Pack enough books for both me and TW (since we are not currently reading the same books).
7) Email or call Elaine
8) Consider trading laptops with Michelle – her battery is better than mine…
9) Make sure TW’s meds are all re-filled and double check Michelle’s.
10) Get sudafed for TW.

11) Batteries for the bathtub floaty lamps.
12) Print confirmation numbers, itinerary, things to do lists.
13) Buy deodorant because Mrs Kennedy says so.

14) Pack
15) Do a load of laundry

16) Go to kinkos (grrr!)

17) Go to the darn library again, sheesh

18) Take TW to get her bloodwork done

19) Go to the grocery store for trashbags (Oh wait, I can send Christopher!!)

20) Drive the half child to work on a day when I don’t normally have to do that (grrrr!)
21) Print bookcrossing labels!
22) Go to Office Depot for ink to print bookcrossing labels! (umm do I have labels??) (Can I send Christopher for that? YES! I can!)

23) Housework that I procrastinated all week? Ha, right, I’m such a dreamer.
24) Find an ethernet splitter since there is no wifi in the hotel room.

Daily Dose of Stuff – Monday

July_003
Last year TW and Michelle planted gourd seeds in the square foot garden.  The seeds grew and grew and grew and grew all of the way up over the roof of the patio.  We promptly forgot about them until someone looked out of the bathroom window or RJ’s window (I can’t remember which) and saw not only the vines but gourds.  On the roof.  And there they stayed until FINALLY the 1/2 child climbed out there and brought them in last week.

They were originally planted to Michelle could make some project or another with them.  A gourd bowl or instrument or something.  Now she is acting like she never wanted to do this.  Ha.  She’s doing it alright and Lee has nicely provided us with the cleaning instructions so she can do it properly.

What’s in your house?

Daily Dose of Blogathon – Ashley

you like ashley, remember? I talked about that once before, on Blogher I think (but I can’t look for sure because Blogher doesn’t like me this morning). Even if you don’t remember, you do like her and because you like her you should support her during Blogathon 2006 next weekend.

Ashley doesn’t have high speed internet so guess what she’s going to do? She’s going to wander around SLC and use various hot spots to blog her “every 30 minute” blog entries. That’s kind of cool, and interesting – not that you should be supporting someone blogging for charity because they are doing something cool and interesting, unless you’re just shallow that way.

Go on, support Ashley and the American Lung Association. You like Ashley – you like lungs, too.

Daily Dose of Life

What the heck?  Who said my life could get really complicated and really busy and really wild right now?  I did not give permission for that to happen.

There are 8 days til Blogher.  A couple of weeks til little kids come home.  A couple of weeks til Michelle’s friend from Jersey comes to visit. A month before school starts.   A month before E’s birthday.  Six weeks til Chuck, Jenn and TW’s birthday.

My calendar looks like someone vomited "to do lists" all over it.  I am never going to get everything done so I am giving up trying.  If it gets done, great.  If not, who cares.  I can’t deal with the stress anymore so I’m banishing stressful situations from my life.  Now.

Pooof.  No more stress.  Wow, that was easy.

Daily Dose of Blogher – BlogMe!

It is my pleasure to introduce you (or re-introduce you) to one of my partners in Health & Wellness – The very awesome and very amazing Amanda!

I wasn’t really going to participate in the whole BlogMe thing, I’m seriously swamped at work and at home and it seemed like way too much work for me.  But then Amanda emailed me and asked if I wanted to join her and how do you say no to Amanda?  You just don’t.  She’s too nice and too cool (the tattoos, have you seen the tattoos???) and I’m really very glad she is back at Blogher so heck yea I’m playing!  The interview is ON!

Are you and your blogging persona the same person?

I’ve been blogging on and off since 2002, and always used my given first name in my blogs until I started on the most recent one.  The decision to use a pseudonym at "The Cat Lady" was sort of a random one, but I did want the tone of the new blog to be totally different from "cancer.  it’s not just an astrological sign anymore."  I felt that changing my blogging persona would help to signify that this is a new me, a new life, and a new beginning.  I chose Pussy Galore because it fit with the cat theme, and was Eric’s favorite Bond girl.  He used to do a wickedly funny Sean Connery impersonation and would walk around our apartment, talking to the cats as Bond.  It was hilarious, and I thought that the name would be a good way to pay homage to his sense of humor.

Who do you read every day, rain or shine?

Everyone on all three blogrolls (two at the old site and one at the new site).  A lot of my favorite cancer bloggers are no longer writing, but I still check in every once in a while to see if there’s updates.  My favorite-favorites are Debutaunt, dooce, Blogography and Troll Baby.  I’m always looking for a good laugh and those four seem to deliver pretty reliably.

What is your favorite thing that you wrote?

Wow.  As much as I wish that I never had to write it, the post that I wrote to Eric after he died wasn’t really my favorite post, but was incredibly cathartic and it was comforting to think that those words could reach him through the internet ether.  I’m actually sort of a dork in person, and not so good at expressing myself verbally, so the best "I Love Yous" from me have always come in written form.

Have you ever anonymously posted on a site to flame them?

No, not really…although I did anonymously IM someone once to flame them.  Back when I was an undergrad, my college had installed e-mail kiosks around campus that didn’t require a log-in.  There was an ex-boyfriend of a good friend of mine who was seriously harassing her, and she was at wit’s end.  I had his IM name and created an anonymous account to message him and basically scare the crap out of him.  It probably wasn’t the most responsible decision, but felt incredibly vindicating and it worked…he was scared and started to let her be…

If you had a super power, what would it be?

Time travel.  I’d go back to May 2004-February 2005, and live those months over and over again in slow motion.  Eric and I were newlyweds, living in a tiny apartment above Pearl Harbor, and having the time of our lives.

Avatar  This is Amanda’s second tattoo – the English translation of the text is "The Fighters" and she got it during the transplant last fall.

Now I’m going to tell you what my favorite post of Amanda’s is – it’s probably not her favorite but it is mine because this is honesty, this is naked blogging, this is real.  I have a lot of respect for "real".   All of Amanda’s Blogher posts are worth reading, so go read them, too.

You can read my interview at Amanda’s Blog

Daily Dose of Stuff – Monday

July_002
Lest you think I’m throwing everything away, selling everything or donating it all to charity, here’s a photo of one box of junk that isn’t leaving the house.  It is, however, getting boxed up and put in a closet or the garage.  I can’t be expected to get rid of all of my toys and all of my junk at once, right?

I think I have three boxes of Denise toys and Denise junk to "save" and about twice that is leaving the house – one way or another.  Sniff, sniff.  It’s hard letting go.

What weirdness is in your house?  And why is it there?
