Edwards Live Strong Bracelet
I wish Edwards would take off the Live Strong Bracelet. I guess I could be glad he’s not wearing a pink breast cancer bracelet but still, it bugs me.

I just got a message from Morra and she’s in a cab on the way to The Citadel. Darn Charlotte airport will get you when you least expect it.
Morra is hoping to live blog the event via Twitter since she’s in the main hall and doesn’t think she can liveblog from there. Watch it and blog it, and then go post the links in the Blogher discussion.
Update 6:19pm – she made it but she can’t blog from there so look for her to check in after the event. Now get those fingers ready to live blog it for her. She’ll have some interesting things to say when it’s all over and she will love seeing your live blogging thoughts.
Another update 6:44pm – looks like maybe she will be live blogging after all. I hope so.
7:30 – she’s <a href=http://blogher.org/node/22790>blogging</a>!

geez. First you called Coulter and asked for an apology – ridiculous and done only for some publicity and some sympathy and to stir anti Coullter folks up. Now your questioning Clinton’s commitment to women’s issues because she isn’t a walking women’s movement machine. Give me a break Mrs Edwards. Clinton isn’t focusing solely on women’s issues, she’s talking about issues that face all Americans. If she was talking more about women’s issues you’d have something to say about THAT and you’d probably find some fabulous way to spin it. You are very good at that.
Mrs Edwards, If you want to address Clinton’s position on the various “women’s issues” then you go right ahead and do that. But don’t tiptoe along that “Hillary acts like a man” line.
It’s politics and Mrs Edwards plays it better than her husband does. Too bad she won’t be running, seriously. She’s one hell of a politician. Which makes me dislike her – and her husband. He’s running a distant third with me, possibly because Mrs Edwards is too damn good at what she does – she’s too good at playing political games. I’m really tired of games.

Thanks for talking about this, Nick. I look forward to your recap of the great debate and wish I was going to be there to see it myself. The Citadel, of all places. It’s sort of surreal for this gay Charlestonian.
A question that I hope arises at the debate is the already asked and answered question about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. At The Citadel there is an underground group of students that no person in this country, except for me, likes to talk about. LGB (purposefully left out the T on this one for obvious reasons) students at The Citadel will be wanting to know which candidate will let them speak? Don’t believe that there are LGB students at The Citadel, well think again. I hope that one of these candidates will stand up for these students and allow them to serve our country and be who they are at the same time.

There was a time when I believed the USAF was the “smart” branch of the US military. I was apparently mislead.
As part of a military effort to develop non-lethal weapons, the proposal suggested, “One distasteful but completely non-lethal example would be strong aphrodisiacs, especially if the chemical also caused homosexual behavior.”
The documents show the Air Force lab asked for $7.5 million to develop such a chemical weapon.
Good grief, could you Gainesville folks get out and VOTE and make those poor polling place people happy? I thought they were going to hug us this morning, they were so darn pleased to see us. I am thinking the polls have been a wee bit slow and these people are bored stiff.
Go. Vote. I know it’s just a little vote, but it’s still important. And remember, if you don’t take part in democracy, the right to vote just might be taken away from you – it happened in our little corner of the world, just down the street in Alachua.
Go. Vote. NOW.
I’m definitely not transphobic.
And, while I do support women born women spaces, in some instances, this isn’t the problem either.
I simply do not like the transgendered monologue that has been added to the Vagina Monologues. It does absolutely NOTHING for me. It feels flat, uninspired and there is no passion in it. Ensler can do better and trans women deserve better.
Last year, I thought it was the multiple voices doing the monologue. This year, I’ve decided that’s not the problem. The monologue just plain stinks. Something called They Beat the Girl Out of My Boy… Or So They Tried should be a lot more passionate than it actually IS. I would really love to see the other trans monologues, surely they are better than this one.
Other than this little gripe, we enjoyed this year’s performance of the Vagina Monologues.

I thought for sure my mother was safe. After almost 25 years of being divorced and a zillion years of living with K and no desire at all to bow to the patriarchy and re-marry, she went and did it. She snuck off and married K yesterday.
I should have known this was going to happen. For the last six months she’s been making noises about marriage. And everytime she made those noises I reminded her of the patriarchy. I reminded her that if her granddaughters called and said "We’re thinking about getting married for health insurance…" she’d have said "NO! Don’t do it! Bad reason!"
Bah.
She says she called last week and told me they had decided to do it. She most certainly did not call me last week and tell me they had decided to do it. I’d have taken down the pink flamingo flag in front and hung a black mourning flag up instead. She did call and discuss the pros and cons of marriage with me. But she did not specifically say "We have decided to tie the knot."
HMPH. She probably confused me with my damn sister – again.
She also did not tell my brother. But that is because my damn sister told her that he was off on a cruise. Not that Mikey would have cared, he is part of the patriarchy after all and he bowed to it himself a few years ago after swearing for all of his adult life that he wasn’t going to get married.
Grrr. What is it with my siblings who swear they are never going to do this or that and then turn around and do it. Oh wait, they are their mother’s children – since she always SWORE she would never get married again.
Damn patriarchy. Damn American healthcare system that encourages marriage in order to solve health insurance coverage issues.
