Daily Dose of Cupcakes
My sister is heading to NYC for her birthday celebration so let’s do NYC cupcake toppers. Statue of Liberty Pins or buttons would be nice. Or maybe you prefer the NYC taxi experience? How about the Empire State Building? I can’t choose because I love it all – which means I’d end up with the basic I love NYC topper. Then again, I’m not a huge fan of the “I ‘heart’…” phrase so I’d probably order these instead.

Sylvanians are the only cupcake topper to consider today. Or Calico Critters, I suppose. Happy Birthday, Liz.

Happy Scoble Day errr I mean Happy Birthday
Today is my nephew’s birthday but around here we usually refer to the day as Scoble Day! It’s not that “The Heir to the Throne’s” birthday is not important, it is very important but 2 years ago today Scoble commented on my blog, (in a now very badly formatted due to multiple platform changes post about Patrick and their podcasting fun)! The comment is lost due to multiple platform changes but the memory lives on.
We’re missing “The Heir to the Throne’s” birthday party, again, which is troubling for many reason. This year I’m particularly disappointed since my brother’s best friend is there with his band, performing for the party-goers. I cannot imagine a more interesting party is taking place anywhere in the world. I really hope my mother comes through with good photos and that someone takes some video.
Happy Birthday, little dude!

Miss Liberty
I woke up this morning to find Maria had a great piece about patriotic music and I knew immediately what my favorite would be! Melissa Ferrick doing Dayna Kurtz‘s Miss Liberty! (I took this video last winter – it’s not complete. You can find a complete video here)
Here are the lyrics:
I’m Miss Liberty
Give me your junkies
your irresponsible drummers
I’ve swept my halls clean of clean
Your kitchen raiders your wingtip dayrunnersGo plant your flags and make your
Promise to my promised land
And we’ll make love to the new frontier
In the hot beach sandYou’ll hold me like a drowning man
And come at me too human and then
Drag me down again and leave meBroken like a spine
Split open like a melon that’s been
Dropped from a high high place
Broken like a spine
Split open like a melon that’s been droppedI like this country she’s like a whore
Who loves her junkies
Who loves all her sad outlaws
Lifts up her skirt to tease and flirt
With the wretched who have washed up at her shoresWhen we die i hope someone’s god
Takes us in like immigrants
And we’ll make love in the leftover light
Of heaven’s tenementsYou’ll hold me like a drowning man
And come at me too human
Drag me down again and leave meBroken like a spine
Split open like a melon that’s been
Dropped from a high high place
Broken like a spine
Split open like a melon that’s been droppedYes
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yes
How could I have forgotten?
Well I didn’t actually forget, I just didn’t realize that today was March 1st. Which is sort of dumb since I’ve only written or typed March 1st a zillion times today. What, pray tell, is March 1st – that’s what you’re thinking, right? Silly people. March 1st is PIG DAY!
It is a “smiely” tradition that we have a PIG party and I have no pigs to share for the party. I’m so unprepared. I should be ashamed of myself. And I am. Really. So ashamed that I’m going right now to find you some PIGS to celebrate with.
Here – a PIG O WAR! That’s something worth celebrating, isn’t it? Everyone should know the History of the PIGGY BANK. You’ll astound and amaze folks at your next party or telephone meeting with this sort of knowledge! In honor of this great day, you should all empty your piggy banks and donate money to Pigs, a Sanctuary – tell them smiely sent you! Awwwww a Royal Dandie! How cute! (No Elizabeth, you cannot have one!)
Happy Pig Day to each and every one of you.

All Michelle, All the Time
We woke up this morning to discover everyone celebrating Michelle’s 17th birthday. How did she manage that?
First, we have the NY Times running a story about Tiffany’s. Long time fans of Flamingo House folks will know why this is a Michelle thing.
Then, we find the folks at “I didn’t know that yesterday” sharing the secret behind the candles on birthday cake. Huh? Why today? Oh, because it is Michelle’s birthday – duh.
Then, several rules are broken and Michelle opened her gifts at 9am and has spent several hours making an awful lot of noise.
Dinner will be Farah’s on the Avenue – no hookah but lots of falafel.
And then, Survivor. And then, a late night jaunt with “the boy”.
Thank goodness she’s the one who is 17 and not me. I’m exhausted.
