Daily Dose of Cupcakes

isaspx.jpgI don’t feel so hot and TW is in the middle of a nice little flare. None of this leads to a nice post about cupcake toppers. I was tempted to suggest fake vomit (looks real so if you vomit when you see vomit, don’t click) topped cupcakes but they’re 5″ which is too big for a cupcake. Maybe you can cut them down to size? What about already chewed gum, I feel a bit like chewed gum must feel right now. Instead, I’ll just go with the simple mini-vehicles cupcake topper – because I do feel like a truck hit me.

Anna Casey’s Place in the World

Yes, another book blog post. Sorry! Once I made it through Cellophane, the reading has just come so much easier. I don’t expect I’ll slow down since I’ve got two Harper Collins review books to read plus a bunch of A to Z list books due back to the library this month. So you non-readers just hang tight for a bit longer. (What do you want me to blog about that isn’t related to books? I’ll take requests, just this once. Carmen, don’t say ELFF Diet, I’m getting to that – I swear!)

So, about Anna Casey’s Place in the World it’s juvenile fiction (not even young adult fiction) and I have no idea how it landed in my ClubMom library bag. Did it win a Cybil? Did sassymonkey blog it? Did TW pick it up from the shelf while we were wandering around the stacks? Who knows, my library reading list is always a bit of a mystery and that’s ok.

The book was nice. A “problem book” but not an overwhelming problem book. There was a surprise involving Eb at the very end. I did not expect that. If you have a 10 year old reading the book, and your 10 year old is a sensitive being, you might want to read it first (or drop me an email and I’ll tell you what happens).

I love the neighborhood. I want to live in that neighborhood, homeless dudes and all! Does that neighborhood exist in the USA? If it does, are there any really big houses for sale?

The Broke Diaries!

How did that happen? I almost forgot to blog The Broke Diaries. Crazy since it’s one of the better books I’ve read over the last week or so. In fact, I’m going to toss it into the “favorites” category because I really loved it.

It reads like a blog, or an online journal, which is just how it should read since Nissel is an online kind of woman and started posting her “broke diaries” online. I love a book that reads like a blog rather than one that TRIES to read like a blog.

I’m off to reserve her latest book, Mixed, from the library now. Anyone read it? Is it as good as Broke Diaries? It is, isn’t it?

Brutally Honest, That’s Me

hahahaha besides being nominated in the Blogger’s Choice Awards, Fast Times @ Homeschool High has been nominated for a Homeschool Blog Award… in the “Nitty Gritty” category. ‘Cause I’m brutally honest… particularly about making mistakes. Hahaha, if that doesn’t sum me up I don’t know what does.

Cellophane

I had a difficult time getting into Cellophane. Maybe it was trying to read it in busy airports when flights were being canceled all around me. Or maybe it just starts really slowly. I was about to give up on it when Don Victor discovered he could make cellophane and things got interesting. Very interesting.

The first 75 pages, boring. The last 75 pages also not great. Everything in the middle, fabulous.

Obsessions

Skeet tagged me because I made her feel guilty about the stranded on an island meme. I think this is my punishment for being whiny. I am not sure if I really have any obsessions. I have things that I’m very interested in or that are really important to me. I do get fixated on stuff occasionally but are those things obsessions? Things like white cotton panties, toilets, TW and flamingos are really not obsessions.

So what am I obsessed about, since Skeet is sure everyone is obsessed about something. Oh man, five things? I thought it was three! OK OK fine, let’s give this a try:

1) Lists. I am obsessed with lists and obsessive about lists. I make lists for everything. I don’t necessarily use the lists, follow the lists or ever look at them again. But I make them and I read other people’s lists too. I like lists. I need lists. I could not live without lists.

2) Coffee. I am obsessed with coffee. It really doesn’t matter what kind of coffee or whether the coffee is good or not. I have been known to crave bad Burger King coffee and I continue to order the worst coffee in the world when we go to Farah’s for dinner.

3) My library. I love my library. I love my library more than any other library except the one I grew up going to (that is no longer a library but has rave parties in it). I love my library more than any bookstore (even Foyles, The Tattered Cover and The Strand). I go to my library website at least once everyday. When my library website is down, I am a lot more jittery than I am when my work website is down or when Bloglines is down.

4) My hairbrush. Or the “perfect hairbrush” to be specific. The pink Goodys hairbrush is the perfect hairbrush. I only have one left, still in the package and I would love to open it and use it but I’m terrified that I’ll wear it out (or lose it!) and will never find another one. (Or TW will never find me another one!)

5) TW says I am obsessed with not spending money on trivial and unnecessary items. She’s probably right, though I don’t feel obsessed by this. Maybe I’m a little like Mir, other people notice my obsession but I don’t notice it so much? Or it doesn’t feel like obsessive behavior to me?

OK there you go – my five obsessions which don’t really feel like obsessions to me. Do I have to tag people? Hmmm let’s see… Nickie, Zan and Carmen. Obsess much, ladies?
