A little helpful advice…

Dear citizens of Chicago, Evanston, Wilmette, Skokie, Glenview and beyond….

When you meet someone who says “I’m moving to Evanston from Florida” your answer should really NOT be anything remotely similar to “Are you CRAZY?” Also, blank stare, mouth hanging open and “You’re kidding, right?” is also not all that helpful.

I understand the shock. Believe me. I understand. I’m going through it.

It would really be very helpful if you would just answer with “Welcome to Evanston” and leave it at that.

After all, if you can’t say anything nice about your own town… maybe it is better if you don’t say anything at all?

Thank you.

  1. Well…Welcome to Skokie, Evanston,….or Glenview in your case.

Smooch, smooch….hug, hug…..My God it was so good to see you and TW today (well, I guess officially it was actually yesterday since it’s almost 12:30 am)…..and to sit and chat and laugh with you two adorable ladies was just great. I’m so glad you made the time to run over sweetie so I could get a glimpse of your sweet little face. You and TW are a hoot! She is a lovable character and I can’t wait for you both to be close by for more laughs with the ladies. Welcome lovely ladies….and your entourage…..

  2. This reminds me – I completely missed any explanation of *why* y’all are moving north – if, indeed, you ever gave an explanation.

If you did, could you point me to an appropriate link?

Entirely my bad – sadly, I don’t get paid to read blogs, and what I *do* get paid for has eaten into my blog-reading time, for quite a while now.

Well, that, and one or two other things.

  3. Welcome to the almost North, where you are only allowed to whine about the cold weather if it’s colder there than in Canada. 😉

And hey, you now live closer to me than my mother does.

  4. Welcome to the City of Wind! May you find many others and places that make you feel at home. Good Luck house hunting! There are good bargains to be had.

  5. If it’s any consolation, I LOVE the Evanston area. I lived there for a while several years ago and would love to get back there some day. Chicago is amazing.

  6. Good news! BH has an office in Wilmette. Did Jory mention that? Welcome to the hood!
