Was my grandmother a Deadhead??

It wasn’t enough for Rosanne to be channeling my grandmother, now the Impulsive Buy people have got me wondering if my grandmother was a closet Deadhead.  Didn’t she have some dancing bears?

I do know that she had an AMC Pacer and she LOVED McRibs.

That whole Rocky Horror Picture Show thing, that’s just going too far.  I cannot even begin to think about my grandmother knowing anything about RHPS much less being a fan.  Nope, not going to think about that.  Ever.

Goodnight Nobody

I should have known – I lost my entire post about Goodnight Nobody. That’s a sign that I either shouldn’t speak badly about Jennifer Weiner and nobody cares about my half-hearted boycott of her work or that my boycott should be more than half-hearted.

Goodnight Nobody was no Good in Bed, nor was it any In Her Shoes. It wasn’t even a Little Earthquakes. It was ok. Nothing to write home about or to convince others to read. It isn’t making me regret my decision to drop Jennifer Weiner as my favorite chick lit author or my decision not to rush out and get her books as soon as they hit bookstores. No, I’m not going to change my mind about her book of short stories either.

Goodnight Nobody was ok. Not great, but ok.

A Banned Book: Fun Home

I don’t really DO graphic novels (or comics). They just aren’t my thing, I know that and I avoid them. But when I heard Fun Home was being challenged and banned, I decided to give it a try. I do like Dykes to Watch Out For, in small doses, so I had high hopes for Fun Home.

High hopes indeed. Fun Home is excellent. And it totally needed to be a graphic novel instead of just a written word piece. What a family, what a story, what a terrific job Bechdel did telling her story.

Dirty Places in Gainesvillle

I’m very amused by the 12 dirtiest restaurants in the Gainesville area.  Should I really find this amusing since we visit two of these restaurants on a very regular basis and have visited others (or ordered from them) quite a few times?  Should I really find this amusing since TW really should not be exposed to food prepared in restaurants with as many violations ans these have (or had).  Hell yea I should be amused and I’m pondering the idea of breakfast at 43rd St Deli this weekend (or maybe Jeff’s instead, we’ll have to call first to see if he has bialys.)

Yea yea, food safety is important but you can’t live your life worrying about every restaurant you walk into.  I figure if TW drops dead from food poisoning or e coli after visiting Waffle House, she’ll be ok with that – Waffle House makes a great "last meal".

Daily Dose of Cupcakes

wtd.jpgIn honor of World Toilet Day (Sunday) and the World Toilet Expo, we should all make some toilet topped cupcakes, shouldn’t we?! Yes we certainly should. Particularly if you are like me and have a photo collection of toilets from around the world. Or if you are like TW who spends more time in the bathroom than most. World Toilet Day cupcakes are totally in order!

If you’re serious about your toilet cupcakes, then Ruby Lane has some nice vintage items that could be used. Expensive but nice collectibles, if you’re into toilet collectibles. On ebay you can track down lots of different types of “bathroom sets” – a wood look, (or you can just go to oakridge and grab the toilet only). I prefer porcelain.

Happy World Toilet Day!

I wanted to be Oliver, but he’s a boy….

Do you have the Ferrick cd, skinnier faster live at the BPC?  Or have you seen Melissa sing Mr Bumble live, as an intro to Drive?  If your answer is yes to either of those, then I have to ask if you have ever wondered about "Matt Dorman"?

Do you wonder what he’s doing now? Do you wonder how he feels about being part of the intro to Drive?  Do you think he has a different version of how he came to play Oliver and Melissa found herself playing the "big fat man who was mean"?

Well I’m pretty sure that this Matt Dorman is not the Matt Dorman whose mother was the director.  But I’m wondering if this Matt Dorman is the dude who got the part. (that second link is a PDF but click it if you have ever wondered….)

What do you think?  Am I the only one who thinks about these things?  Is there even a real Matt Dorman or did Melissa just make it all up?
