The San Francisco Treat

When I was a kid, I loved loved loved loved LOVED Rice a Roni Spanish Rice. There was no better lunch or dinner (I don’t think I ever tried it for breakfast) than Rice a Roni Spanish Rice. OK maybe my grandmother’s beef and noodles but otherwise, it was Rice a Roni Spanish Rice for me. I do not know why my mother did not serve this nightly. Oh yes I do – ’cause mothers do not like to make their children happy, they live to torment them with foods like beef stroganoff, tuna noodle casserole and pork chops and spaghetti and stuff like that.

When I grew up, moved out and cooked all of my own food, I tried to eat Rice a Roni Spanish Rice every night but my ex husband and then my children complained. A lot. Hmph. I’m sure my mother paid them to SAY they didn’t like it just to continue to annoy me. Mothers do that kind of stuff. I should know since I’m a mom.

A few minutes ago, TW asked me what I wanted for dinner. I answered as I always do, “I dunno. Nothing.” But now… now that I’m in mourning for the creator of my beloved Rice a Roni Spanish Rice… do you think she’ll run to Publix and grab a box? **Updated** The answer to that question is yes. She just walked out the door. Heh. I’m lucky.

Thinking, thinking, thinking

I’m thinking we did not buy enough Billy bookshelves when we went to IKEA.

I’m thinking our copy of Valencia has disappeared, possibly into the hands of one of Chris’s former girlfriends.

I’m thinking about the difference between public and private info.

I’m thinking that I feel like I was hit by a train – or had a glass of red wine – though neither has happened.

I’m thinking TW should not say negative things about The Female Eunuch to Michelle Belle.

I’m thinking it is nap time.

We’re connected

TW and RJ left early this morning for their weekend at the Happiest Place On Earth. It’s very quiet here, with just me and the still sleeping Prince and the mostly sleeping dogs, cats, rat, turtles (wait, I don’t believe the turtles actually sleep) and bird.

I’m making use of the quiet to catch up on my inbox and my feeds. I keep seeing things I want to share with TW or comment about to TW. So every now and then I start to think “OK I’m going to send her an email about this stuff” (like she won’t have enough to read tonight when she gets back to the hotel room.)

But, here’s the weird thing, every time I start to think about sending her an email – she calls me. (Or she has RJ call me.) That’s nice but instead of talking about my feeds or email or blog comments or her message boards, we talk about the weather or the rest stops or the exit ramps at I4. I could still send her that email but every time she calls, it causes me to forget whatever it was I was going to tell her in the first place.

Weird, right?

Daily Dose of Cupcakes

pirates.jpgHappy (early) Birthday, RJ.

How much longer will this fascination with pirates and Pirates of the Caribbean continue? Will Turner et al on a cupcake. Okey dokey. It would cost you a zillion dollars to buy enough of these figures for a dozen cupcakes but kids would like them, so it’s worth it, right? These pirate action figures might be a better idea. I’d rather have Jack Sparrow Minifigs but they sure don’t look like Johnny Depp, do they?
