Daily Dose of Stuff – Monday

July_003
Last year TW and Michelle planted gourd seeds in the square foot garden.  The seeds grew and grew and grew and grew all of the way up over the roof of the patio.  We promptly forgot about them until someone looked out of the bathroom window or RJ’s window (I can’t remember which) and saw not only the vines but gourds.  On the roof.  And there they stayed until FINALLY the 1/2 child climbed out there and brought them in last week.

They were originally planted to Michelle could make some project or another with them.  A gourd bowl or instrument or something.  Now she is acting like she never wanted to do this.  Ha.  She’s doing it alright and Lee has nicely provided us with the cleaning instructions so she can do it properly.

What’s in your house?

The Shadow of the Wind

I wasn’t looking forward to reading The Shadow of the Wind. I kept pushing it back further on the “to be read” list. I kept picking it up and putting it down. I even read Vanity Fair before The Shadow of the Wind because I was sure this was going to be a dud. I was soooo wrong.

From the first paragraph to the last, I was totally hooked. I love the idea of a Cemetary of Forgotten Books. I loved every single character in this novel, including the “bad guys”. I loved the twists and turns and the impossible connections between the characters. I even loved the ridiculous and completely impossible coincidences.

The only thing I didn’t like was that the book ended. And I wish, I really wish, I could read Julian Carax’s novels.

Percy Jackson – Sea of Monsters

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed Sea of Monsters. Ignoring the fact that I’d have enjoyed just about anything after the horrors of Vanity Fair, Sea of Monsters was terrific. Great fun for kids and grown ups and an excellent sequel to The Lightning Thief. I can hardly wait to see what happens next.

Daily Dose of Blogathon – Ashley

you like ashley, remember? I talked about that once before, on Blogher I think (but I can’t look for sure because Blogher doesn’t like me this morning). Even if you don’t remember, you do like her and because you like her you should support her during Blogathon 2006 next weekend.

Ashley doesn’t have high speed internet so guess what she’s going to do? She’s going to wander around SLC and use various hot spots to blog her “every 30 minute” blog entries. That’s kind of cool, and interesting – not that you should be supporting someone blogging for charity because they are doing something cool and interesting, unless you’re just shallow that way.

Go on, support Ashley and the American Lung Association. You like Ashley – you like lungs, too.

I Prefer the Moonstone

I finally finished this monster of a book, Vanity Fair. I prefer The Moonstone. Thank goodness that’s done with. I’m not even sure what the point of the book was? I suppose 100 bloody years ago, it might have been new and interesting but today it just seemed tired and incredibly long and a wee bit boring. OK more than a wee bit.

It’s pretty bad when you don’t find a single character to LIKE in a 750 page book.

Daily Dose of Life

What the heck?  Who said my life could get really complicated and really busy and really wild right now?  I did not give permission for that to happen.

There are 8 days til Blogher.  A couple of weeks til little kids come home.  A couple of weeks til Michelle’s friend from Jersey comes to visit. A month before school starts.   A month before E’s birthday.  Six weeks til Chuck, Jenn and TW’s birthday.

My calendar looks like someone vomited "to do lists" all over it.  I am never going to get everything done so I am giving up trying.  If it gets done, great.  If not, who cares.  I can’t deal with the stress anymore so I’m banishing stressful situations from my life.  Now.

Pooof.  No more stress.  Wow, that was easy.

Vanity Fair – Page 395

Someone tell me why Vanity Fair is on my Summer Reading Challenge? Because a little more than halfway through it, I’m feeling like I’d rather go back to The Moonstone. Seriously, why do people enjoy this book? Why is it on that really interesting Lifetime Reading List? Why is it on all sorts of “great books” lists?

Someone give me a nudge, say something positive about this book. Pretty Please.
