We shouldn’t wait 15 months between Melissa shows. That’s just nuts. We should quit our jobs and travel around the country, following her from show to show. Wait. I’m too old for that. We got home at 2am, I was up at 6:30am and I’m exhausted… and we’re going to do it all over again tonight. Yay us!
Anyway – the show was awesome. The Social tends to have a lot of talkers and a lot of drunk baby dykes, last night – there weren’t too many of either. It helped that the really big dude with the really big microphone was telling chicks to STFU. Heh.
The new songs are excellent. I have some video – it’s not great, the bright red light over Melissa’s head sucked and I needed to step back about 2 feet from the stage but that would have been where Mr Really Big Guy with the Really Big Mic was standing. I’ll try video again tonight – At Cafe Eleven… who knows what I’ll get.
Oh, also, Edie Carey – awesome. We’ve missed her. She was recovering from the flu and not her best but still – awesome, maybe more awesome because she had the flu, ya know? And she did sing Violently, with Melissa. I have video. Michelle is happy about that.

This morning, don’t ask me how because I don’t remember, it became clear that the small children did not know the song “Puff the Magic Dragon”. I did the only thing I could possibly do, I downloaded it, and some more Peter, Paul & Mary, and we listened.
The bird is not impressed by Peter, Paul & Mary and the only comment from any of the children was from RJ – “I like the part when the kid dies.” Errr, yea. OK.
Then, Lemon Trees came on and all three children listened. When it ended there was much discussion about how stupid the song is because the “fruit of the poor lemon is POSSIBLE to eat” – the kids like lemons.
Err, yea. OK. I was trying to work and will admit that I had absolutely no interest in explaining the moral of the story to them. And that was fine because it was time for eggs benedict (which coincidentally involves lemons) and they wouldn’t have listened to me anyway. They were too busy eating.
All day long I’ve been fighting to keep the chorus of Lemon Trees OUT of my head. Apparently Liz was thinking about lemons too because she eventually asked to make lemonade. And now, that darn song is totally and completely stuck in my head.

Michelle confiscated my iRiver months ago and I haven’t seen it since. OK I have seen it, every day, attached to her ear as I’m driving her to school or work. I sometimes reach over and pet it, and she snatches it away. It has somehow become hers. And I want it back.
So, I did the only thing I could do. I bought her a new music player. An iPod Touch, to be exact. And she has no idea. She knows I bought her a present and it was arriving today. She also knows I was thrilled that it was arriving today because she has school til 2:45 and then works from 3 til 11. This means I get to play with her present before she does.
And play with it I have. It is awesome. Not quite awesome enough to buy one instead of an iPhone but very close. Very close.
Awesome.
I heard the UPS truck pull up about an hour ago. Weird. Not only am I not expecting anything by UPS at the moment (I am expecting stuff but either not by UPS or not quite yet) but also our UPS delivery is usually between 4:30 and 6:30 pm. What the heck was he doing here at all, and so early.
He jumps out of the truck carrying a small flat UPS type envelope. Weird. What is this? He hands it to me, wishes me a good weekend and jogs away as I look at the label. Ha. Goldenrod Music.
Inside, my three Live at Union Hall CDs and the bubble wrap regular mail envelope they had originally been in. They were shipped overnight and the package also included a 10% off coupon for my next order.
So. I’m not quite as grouchy with Goldenrod Music as I was earlier in the week – or the last two times I’ve ordered from them.

Before I ramble about Melissa’s new cd, I have to rant about Goldenrod Music. Again. Afreakinggain. When will I learn NOT to pre-order Melissa’s cds from them? I’m betting if you click my Melissa category and scroll back over the years you will see that I have ranted about them before. If I EVER say I’m going to pre-order music from them, can you shoot me and put me out of my damn misery? Because once again, I do not have my Melissa cds and I cannot get anyone to answer email regarding my order.
So – screw them. I went to Melissa’s myspace and downloaded the tracks for $1 each and am happily listening to an awesome live album. Awesome. But, and there is a but, be forewarned, if you do not already know Melissa’s music you probably will not like this one. And if you like Melissa’s music but do not enjoy her shows because she rambles through her songs and tends to change them around or make up new words then you will not like this album.
I, however, love nothing better than to attend Melissa’s shows and listen to her have fun with her songs – and with her fans – and with the person/people she’s playing music with. Some people complain about Skinnier, Faster, Live because they just can’t listen to her talk about getting her hair cut over and over again. I, however, never get tired of hearing Melissa talk about getting her hair cut. So, I love this album.
Love it.
Also, Lyra the bird likes it – and she’s never attended a Melissa concert. Maybe I don’t hate this bird as much as I originally thought. Maybe.
Update: 3 hours later I received an email from Goldenrod letting me know that they just received the CDs and are processing orders. I do appreciate it when folks answer their email.
And another update 1 day later: Another email letting me know they are shipping CDs today. And also you should know that I’ve only listened to the CD about 50 times in the last 24 hours and have already worn out the cd I burned the mp3s to.
