You scored as Albus Dumbledore, Strong and powerful you admirably defend your world and your charges against those who would seek to harm them. However sometimes you can fail to do what you must because you care too much to cause suffering.

Do I sound different on the phone?

So I was in this conference call with a bunch of people tonight and one of those people was sassymonkey. Can I just say she sounds different on the phone than she does in real life. Luckily she has that Canadian tone to her voice, and she was talking about stuff that I knew immediately only SHE would think to bring up. That is probably the only reason I knew it was her! Weird.

Do I sound different on the phone? TW does and I’m sure people call her at work just to hear her phone voice.

10 seconds? Impossible!

blogme2007logo.JPG

This year’s brilliance from Kelly is a 10 second introduction. I hate these things. 10 seconds is either far too long or far too short, I’m not sure which. But I’ll play but I’m getting help from the children.

RJ (entering 6th grade!) thinks you should know that I am patient.

E (entering 4th grade!) jumped in with “evillllllll” which annoyed Prince J who obviously wanted to use this one himself.

Instead the good Prince (entering 8th grade, OMG how did that happen) said you should know I am cool. Heh. I’m sure he means evil in a cool way but E screwed that right up for him. (The three older children are off in their own worlds and unavailable for comment at this time.)

I suppose I should mention I’m a lesbian since that was apparently not obvious at the last BlogHer conference.

I will probably not sit still or stand still for long at the conference, nothing personal – I just like to talk to everyone and make sure I don’t miss anyone. I also hate seeing people sitting or standing alone so I will probably attempt to corral the loners and toss them into the loud and boisterous mommy groups or pair them up with other quiet types. If you’re feeling lonely, grab me and I’ll help. It’s what I do best.

Prius owners are snobs!

As you’re obviously aware, I’ve been planning to buy a Prius whaley boy car for a very long time. I’m always amused by the stories about why Prius owners buy the Prius. It appears as though green living and saving money are at the bottom of the list of reasons for the purchase. Ego and image boosting is high – the search for identity.

The Prius is not a pretty car. In fact, it’s ugly. (Which is part of the reason why it’s called a whaley boy car – Fluke is the real reason.) I want one for three reasons, all of which say something about me.

  • I love Christopher Moore. I loved Fluke. I love the Whaley Boys. I need a Whaley Boy car!
  • The car IS ugly. I am drawn to things that society does not think are “beautiful”. I’m not Ani who says “everything she loves is ugly” but I can relate to that.
  • I’m the frugal sort. I’ve read all of the articles that indicate the Prius may not be as cost-effective as we think. But, based on my driving habits, I think it probably is going to be a money saver in the long run.

The green thing does play a role in my decision to buy a Prius. Definitely. But like many other people, it’s not at the top of my list. It’s 4th. I’m not a great green human, but I do try. I’m also not a snob but I have to agree that an awful lot of Prius owners are.

I’m not really into queer animals

I know that’s a relief to all of you. That whole gay penguin thing, whatever. I really just don’t care. And if I can keep myself from pointing at the constantly breeding heterosexual cats in the world and condemning heterosexual relationships because of the cats behavior then I would really prefer it if folks didn’t point at gay penguins and say “See, Denise & TW are normal!”. Please. Just don’t bother, ok?

But in this one particular case, I’m going to share. Only because it’s flamingos. That doesn’t mean I think we need to point at the flamingos and say SEE, queers make great parents too! They do, we just don’t need flamingos to prove it. So enjoy the flamingo story and stay calm.

Magic Bus

Anytime I see a VW bus I point it out – “Look! Magic Bus!” And it makes me smile when a small child sees one before I do and says “Look! Magic Bus!” I want a Magic Bus. I was sad when Naked Jen said goodbye her Magic Bus. And then there’s this little ode to a Magic Bus that makes me smile so much that I have it saved is my feed reader and cannot bring myself to unsave it. I like seeing the Magic Bus every time I read my feeds and I like reading the little passage, too.

I love the Magic Bus.

365 Cow Jokes Later

OK OK it’s another book, I can’t trick you and pretend it isn’t. I like books. I also like cows. Last year was a good year for cows because of The Cartoonist They Call Stik.

You may remember last year I won a cow tshirt that’s been quite popular around here. You’ll also remember that I really wanted a Flamencow tshirt. You’ll be very pleased to know that I bought myself the t-shirt and I won a free 365 Cow Jokes Later book.

Cows are good to me.

Obsessions

Skeet tagged me because I made her feel guilty about the stranded on an island meme. I think this is my punishment for being whiny. I am not sure if I really have any obsessions. I have things that I’m very interested in or that are really important to me. I do get fixated on stuff occasionally but are those things obsessions? Things like white cotton panties, toilets, TW and flamingos are really not obsessions.

So what am I obsessed about, since Skeet is sure everyone is obsessed about something. Oh man, five things? I thought it was three! OK OK fine, let’s give this a try:

1) Lists. I am obsessed with lists and obsessive about lists. I make lists for everything. I don’t necessarily use the lists, follow the lists or ever look at them again. But I make them and I read other people’s lists too. I like lists. I need lists. I could not live without lists.

2) Coffee. I am obsessed with coffee. It really doesn’t matter what kind of coffee or whether the coffee is good or not. I have been known to crave bad Burger King coffee and I continue to order the worst coffee in the world when we go to Farah’s for dinner.

3) My library. I love my library. I love my library more than any other library except the one I grew up going to (that is no longer a library but has rave parties in it). I love my library more than any bookstore (even Foyles, The Tattered Cover and The Strand). I go to my library website at least once everyday. When my library website is down, I am a lot more jittery than I am when my work website is down or when Bloglines is down.

4) My hairbrush. Or the “perfect hairbrush” to be specific. The pink Goodys hairbrush is the perfect hairbrush. I only have one left, still in the package and I would love to open it and use it but I’m terrified that I’ll wear it out (or lose it!) and will never find another one. (Or TW will never find me another one!)

5) TW says I am obsessed with not spending money on trivial and unnecessary items. She’s probably right, though I don’t feel obsessed by this. Maybe I’m a little like Mir, other people notice my obsession but I don’t notice it so much? Or it doesn’t feel like obsessive behavior to me?

OK there you go – my five obsessions which don’t really feel like obsessions to me. Do I have to tag people? Hmmm let’s see… Nickie, Zan and Carmen. Obsess much, ladies?
