Duh, of course he’s gay

Anyone with a lick of gaydar already knew it was Dumbledore who was gay. Nice to hear Rowling say it out loud, though.

She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds “true love.”

“Dumbledore is gay,” the author responded to gasps and applause.

She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. “Falling in love can blind us to an extent,” Rowling said of Dumbledore’s feelings, adding that Dumbledore was “horribly, terribly let down.”

The Deathly Hallows

I did finally finish Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows. Finally. I cannot believe it took me more than a week. Well yes I can since I had one of the craziest weeks of my life.

I liked it, the book not the crazy life – well I guess I liked that too. There are some parts that I was disappointed in, the “19 years later” part is probably the biggest disappointment. She should have just left it alone.

Rather than ramble on and on, and include some spoilers that piss people off, I’ll just link you over to Mombian and her post about Rowling and lesbian literature. That won’t piss anyone off, will it?

Damn, I wanted to be Voldemort. Or at least Snape

You scored as Albus Dumbledore, Strong and powerful you admirably defend your world and your charges against those who would seek to harm them. However sometimes you can fail to do what you must because you care too much to cause suffering.

Daily Dose of Cupcakes

zz320104l.jpgObviously today’s cupcake toppers must be Harry Potter themed. There’s nothing else happening in the world this weekend, is there? You can top your cupcakes with Bertie Botts Beans or the Golden Snitch cuff links pictured in this post (they are a bit expensive for a cupcake topper but your HP fans are worth it, aren’t they?)

There are mudblood buttons and Platform 9 3/4 buttons, and my favorite deatheater button. I could go on and on – the Cafe Press options alone could provide you with enough HP cupcake toppers for years.

Some stuff

Alright Modest Mouse! (Not that I don’t like Joss Stone, but still, it’s Modest Mouse! Totally cool.)

I have a knitting question for you knitters, obviously since non-knitters like me wouldn’t know the answer. So. You know how people take reading material into the bathroom, if they’re going to be there awhile – heh – do y’all take your knitting in there with you?

I am not fond of the new HP cover. Too cartoony. The characters look “Edge Chronicle-like”.

I think sassymonkey really could get lucky with Ami McKay. Would y’all like to help me encourage her to give it a go?

Yesterday was Diabetes Alert Day. You didn’t miss it did you? I missed it here, and at Blogher, but managed to get it up at work. Not that anyone noticed. Diabetes does not seem to be the “hot disease” at the moment. Go Colorectal Cancer!

OK that’s enough stuff for now. I’ll be back later with a book post. Goodie!

Harry Potter Day

The little children are huge Harry Potter fans so we had to visit Kings Cross aka Saint Pancras to see Platform 9 3/4 both the plaque and the platform where the scenes were filmed. Not only did we see these and take pictures there, the children insisted on acting out some of the scenes. And STICK TO YOUR TICKET became the phrase of the day.

From there, we went to Diagon Alley aka Leadenhall Market which was gorgeous. We arrived early and there were very few people there, which was nice. In London it can be hard to find tourist stops that are not crowded, heh. We had some very good hot chocolate and some really excellent orangy gingery biscuits there.

Then hours and hours at the British Museum. The Reading Room was a hit. The girls would have stayed there all day, Prince J was not as enthralled by it. We didn’t manage to see it all but we did see everything on the ground floor and about 1/3 of the upper level, maybe still a good bit. Unfortunately two of the rooms we really wanted to see were closed. Pout.

Another good, full, day – and an incredibly crowded subway ride home, which was good because we all should experience the madness of a London rush hour home.
