This year’s brilliance from Kelly is a 10 second introduction. I hate these things. 10 seconds is either far too long or far too short, I’m not sure which. But I’ll play but I’m getting help from the children.
RJ (entering 6th grade!) thinks you should know that I am patient.
E (entering 4th grade!) jumped in with “evillllllll” which annoyed Prince J who obviously wanted to use this one himself.
Instead the good Prince (entering 8th grade, OMG how did that happen) said you should know I am cool. Heh. I’m sure he means evil in a cool way but E screwed that right up for him. (The three older children are off in their own worlds and unavailable for comment at this time.)
I suppose I should mention I’m a lesbian since that was apparently not obvious at the last BlogHer conference.
I will probably not sit still or stand still for long at the conference, nothing personal – I just like to talk to everyone and make sure I don’t miss anyone. I also hate seeing people sitting or standing alone so I will probably attempt to corral the loners and toss them into the loud and boisterous mommy groups or pair them up with other quiet types. If you’re feeling lonely, grab me and I’ll help. It’s what I do best.

geez. First you called Coulter and asked for an apology – ridiculous and done only for some publicity and some sympathy and to stir anti Coullter folks up. Now your questioning Clinton’s commitment to women’s issues because she isn’t a walking women’s movement machine. Give me a break Mrs Edwards. Clinton isn’t focusing solely on women’s issues, she’s talking about issues that face all Americans. If she was talking more about women’s issues you’d have something to say about THAT and you’d probably find some fabulous way to spin it. You are very good at that.
Mrs Edwards, If you want to address Clinton’s position on the various “women’s issues” then you go right ahead and do that. But don’t tiptoe along that “Hillary acts like a man” line.
It’s politics and Mrs Edwards plays it better than her husband does. Too bad she won’t be running, seriously. She’s one hell of a politician. Which makes me dislike her – and her husband. He’s running a distant third with me, possibly because Mrs Edwards is too damn good at what she does – she’s too good at playing political games. I’m really tired of games.

I might have mentioned that I’m not a huge Oprah fan. Well I’m not, but TW is. Because I’m not a fan, I try not to blog about Oprah or any Oprah related activities or events. This time, I’m making an acception.
Revolution Health is giving away two tickets every week to the O You! event in Miami. Click this link to enter the Oh You Sweepstakes.
Hmmm Suze Orman will be there. Maybe I should attend.
this sucks. Good luck Kate. Once The Riverdale Goddess – always The Riverdale Goddess. Blog or no blog.
I’d like to be a fly on the wall of the person (people) who initiated this. When they read her post, will that be enough? Is taking down the content really enough for them? I rather doubt it. They’ve made a decision that “The River Goddess” needed to go but now that it is (or will be once google cache disappears) won’t they expect something else from her? Won’t they insist she change something else about who she is? Why would removing her blog content be enough for these people?
I’m afraid this is only the beginning of The River Goddess’s problems at her “real job”. In my experience people who say “do this and you can keep doing that” tend to come back again with more demands, until they’ve taken everything they can possibly take – and then some.
I understand her compliance but I don’t like it. I don’t like that she was forced to choose.

Gosh I’m agreeable lately? I can’t help it. When I see smart people and smart thinking, I just have to agree. I like to be the squeaky wheel and argue but in this case, I just can’t.
The Avengers Movie should never have been made.
Sigh. I love Mrs Peel (and Steed too, for that matter.)

I was soooo grouchy yesterday. I woke up grouchy today. All of the people attempting to defend the creators and supporters (and by support I mean commenters, linkers and readers) of meankids. What are they thinking?
Meankids wasn’t satire and it wasn’t sarcasm and it wasn’t snark. It was bullying, manipulation, attack, and hatred. That’s it. If you want to defend that, then who ARE you?
Thanks Liz. The more people talking the better.

This is what’s wrong with the internet. Or more specifically online communities. Or even more specifically, online communities that don’t moderate themselves or their members. I can’t even believe I just typed that, but it’s true. And it’s why after all of these years I still moderate online communities. Even though I’m the moderator who usually rages against the machine in favor of less moderation, more freedom of expression, looser reins, more trust in the individuals who make up the community.
Bah.
For the record, I’ve never read anything on “meankids”. I do snark and sarcasm, I don’t do “mean”. Now, I’m playing catch up. Trying to sort out what went wrong and why. Like the always brilliant Shelley Powers, I’m not interested in pointing fingers at any individuals. Kathy can do that, with whatever evidence she has, and let the authorities take it from there if she has that kind of evidence or desire to push it.
I’m interested in what causes this. And how to stop it. Particularly since so much of it seems to be directed at women. And at children.
What gives someone the right to photoshop a kid’s photo. What gives someone the right to put a noose around Kathy Sierra’s neck? What gives someone the right to make sexual comments about a woman? What gives someone the right to degrade and threaten another human being – often a woman?
Patriarchy? Liz titled her post with a rage against patriarchy and I love her for that. It’s so easy to toss that phrase out. I do it everyday. Is it more than that? Is it something else entirely. The culture of the internet, Scoble said today. What’s driving us to create an internet space that looks the way it does today. That feels the way it felt today when I read Sierra’s post and just sat there not knowing what to say.
Nancy White helped organize and lead a small group of folks last year who wanted to discuss “us/them” situations within the Blogosphere and beyond. This is definitely an us/them situation. The problem is, the us/them line is getting more muddled everyday. The attacks back and forth and back again are growing and they’re getting uglier and more dangerous.
Kathy Sierra drew a line in the blogosphere today. I don’t know if it was the right line, but it was a line and I support her right to draw it. I support her right to tell people what she thinks and how she feels. I support her right to fight back in any way she feels is right for her.
Be careful of turning your back on her and on this issue. One day it may be you with a noose around your neck on a blog, it may be you with the death threats – your odds are great, especially if you’re a woman.
