PeeWee on TV!
I saw this article on TV Squad about Paul Reubens and immediately thought of Nuthinfancy. Heh. When you hear Paul Reubens or PeeWee Herman, who do you think of?

February was a bust in terms of completing items on the 101 list. Museums and days off – that’s about it. Oh yea, saved some money and donated some money, which is a wee bit surprising since we spent a gazillion dollars on the trip to England.
March will be better for the 101 list. I swear it will!

Well I didn’t actually forget, I just didn’t realize that today was March 1st. Which is sort of dumb since I’ve only written or typed March 1st a zillion times today. What, pray tell, is March 1st – that’s what you’re thinking, right? Silly people. March 1st is PIG DAY!
It is a “smiely” tradition that we have a PIG party and I have no pigs to share for the party. I’m so unprepared. I should be ashamed of myself. And I am. Really. So ashamed that I’m going right now to find you some PIGS to celebrate with.
Here – a PIG O WAR! That’s something worth celebrating, isn’t it? Everyone should know the History of the PIGGY BANK. You’ll astound and amaze folks at your next party or telephone meeting with this sort of knowledge! In honor of this great day, you should all empty your piggy banks and donate money to Pigs, a Sanctuary – tell them smiely sent you! Awwwww a Royal Dandie! How cute! (No Elizabeth, you cannot have one!)
Happy Pig Day to each and every one of you.

Oh! I want to be a nomad! But I can’t do it. Darn it. That whole leaving your kids and being totally out of their lives except for occasional visits – no thanks. Maybe in my next life when I’m childfree by choice, I’ll give the whole nomad thing a try.
Tales of a Female Nomad was interesting. Slow in places but very interesting. Imagine ditching life as you know it, as a woman over 50, and wandering the world – and doing it with a backpack, in the jungle and stuff. Interesting, right?

A couple of months ago, something reminded me of a toy my kids had. It was a barn, not a Fisher Price barn, but sort of like that. With little animals. When you put them into their “spaces” they would make animal sounds. I went looking for a picture of one online and of course I couldn’t find one. Then I searched my photo albums looking for a picture of this barn. Nada. How could that be? I took a LOT of pictures of my kids when they were little. I can’t imagine how this farm, which was shuttled all over the world, could not have made its way into at least one photo. But it didn’t.
Then today, I went looking for a picture of the Waterbabies that were popular in the early ’90s. I couldn’t find a good photo of one. So, I went looking through my family photo albums again. I cannot believe I do not have a photo of Michelle with “Chocolate Opal”. There is one photo of her with the “other Opal” but none of “Chocolate Opal”. Insane. That doll was carried with us EVERYWHERE. No pictures.
Learn from me! Take photos of the toys your children loved (and hated). 20 years from now, you’ll want those photos. Or your children will call you up and say “Remember that plane I used to love to ride at grandma’s house?” And you’ll be able to proudly present the child with a photo. (Thank goodness I do have photos of that fabulous toy!)

That sums it up. I’m too busy to blog, too tired to blog. I’m also fiddling with a new cell phone in the free minutes that I have. And really, figuring out a new cell phone with music, camera, video, tv and all that junk takes a lot more than a few minutes. Blogging also takes a lot more than a few minutes, particularly when you have as many blogs as I have – or when you’re as brain dead as I’m feeling right now.
Talk amongst yourselves. About me is fine, I know y’all do that all of the time anyway.

I’m definitely not transphobic.
And, while I do support women born women spaces, in some instances, this isn’t the problem either.
I simply do not like the transgendered monologue that has been added to the Vagina Monologues. It does absolutely NOTHING for me. It feels flat, uninspired and there is no passion in it. Ensler can do better and trans women deserve better.
Last year, I thought it was the multiple voices doing the monologue. This year, I’ve decided that’s not the problem. The monologue just plain stinks. Something called They Beat the Girl Out of My Boy… Or So They Tried should be a lot more passionate than it actually IS. I would really love to see the other trans monologues, surely they are better than this one.
Other than this little gripe, we enjoyed this year’s performance of the Vagina Monologues.

A lot better, in fact. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is the best Asian historical novel I’ve read in a very, very long time. Maybe ever. It’s also one of the better female relationship books. I was surprised. I didn’t expect a book THIS good. I’d like to pick it up right now, and read it all over again.

Miss Garnet’s Angel started out as a disappointment but improved as the story went along… Much like Miss Garnet herself.
Julia Garnet starts out as a pretty unlikeable retired, spinster, British school teacher. Heck she’s not even a dyke to give her some interesting quality. She’s a stick in the mud, a little too high and mighty and just plain boring. Until she goes to Venice. Until she discovers the Angel, Raphael.
The parallel story about Tobit helped move Miss Garnet’s story along. Not a bad book, if you give it time to develop.
