Daily Dose of Food – Zucchini Boats

So, guess what! Besides staying away from the beach and cleaning the garage (which isn’t done but we got a lot of it done) and going to the grocery store and Home Deopot – I did something else important. Something I really try hard not to do very often. I cooked. And I almost enjoyed it.

Alanna posted these zucchini boats awhile back and I thought they were beautiful. And, even better, they have feta. I love feta. So I made them. Me.

Yep, I scraped out the inside of the zucchini and I sauteed everything up and I filled the zucchini boats and I put them in the oven. And they were good. I thought they were really good.

I just wish it wasn’t such a pain in the rear to scrape out the darn things. I’d pay someone to do that part. Even if TW does have the cool Dean & DeLuca food carving set thingy.

Try them. And tell me (and Alanna) how you liked them.

Daily Dose of Television, Luck & Money

The stars are all properly aligned today so it is safe, maybe even necessary, for me to answer a question I tend to avoid like the plague.  First, about those stars.  1) It’s the heir to the throne’s birthday tomorrow.  2) That millionaire meme says I could be a millionaire 3) I’ve recently discvered a TV show called Windfall.  (Look at this, Money Tracker – Windfall, interesting to see the money spent displayed that way, isn’t it?  I would like one of these in real life, maybe for certain members of my family?  Anyway, the stars are properly aligned and here I go…

What would you do if you (or you and your friends) won the lottery?

Five years ago my immediate answer to this very overused meme question was – give it away.  Today, a lot has happened in my world and I’ve had more time to think about this question than I ever wanted and my answer is… give it away.

Well not exactly.  First a house and of course the various methods of ensuring the children’s education is covered and a wee bit for a good down payment on a house when they are ready.  Paying off the bills.  The "duh" stuff.  Then, here’s something I hadn’t thought of five years ago… healthcare.  Making sure everyone is set for healthcare.  Good insurance and enough of a nest egg to deal with the mounting healthcare costs that come up when you least expect it.  After that, I’d give it away.  All of it.  To friends, family and charity.

What would you do? And have you watched this Windfall show?  I’m considering breaking my no TV in the summer trend and watching it.

Daily Dose of Kids, Noise and Cats

Did I tell you the big boy moved back home?  He did.  He’s been here two nights.  The first night he slept on the couch because it was short notice and we didn’t have time to clean his new room, the Florida Room, and get a bed in there.  And his sister, who has missed him a lot, told him the little kids wet their beds so he was afraid to sleep in one of those.  Ah siblings, such kindness.  Sort of amusing after the fact, though.

The next night, he dragged half of the mattress into the Florida Room, turned on the ceiling fan and then dug around in the closet for the box fan.  He said it was comfortable enough at night, during the day it’s a wee bit warm but not too bad.  With his big fan, that’s still at his old place, it should be fine.  He dug some sheets out to hang over the sliding glass door not because he is modest or to block out some daylight but because he brought his darn cat with him on day two and the other animals in the house stood at the door and whined to get in there to "visit".  Instead of being down to 3 cats we are back up to 5!

Chris is a vegetarian.  Not in the flexitarian way that TW and I are vegetarians.  He really is a vegetarian.  He has this whole animal compassion thing.  He apparently has developed a fondness for organic junk food and those healthy chips that TW and I buy when we visit real grocery stores, like Wild Oats and Whole Foods and stuff.  Ha.  We’ve determined that he NEEDS his green vegetables and he does eat tofu and he does eat all Boca products.  (I hope he eats Publix fake meat products since I buy those more often now.)  He also eats fruit and he still drinks an awful lot of soda.  At least I’ve only had to lecture him once about TW’s cokes – he’s been gone a whole year and he’s forgotten the TW coke rules.

The most interesting thing I’ve noticed since the boy has been back has been the noise.  You can almost always hear a guitar playing in the house if Michelle and/or the half child are here.  But now, with Chris home, you hear ELECTRIC guitar with AMPS instead of soft acoustic sounds.  I’m having just a little bit of trouble adjusting.  Thank goodness he is in the Florida room and not over my head anymore.

So, the boy is back and we are glad.  We’ve missed him.  Even if he is loud and did bring a cat and has special food needs.

Daily Dose of Search

It’s that time again because some of you need some serious help with your searches.

Let’s start with the easy stuff – Melissa Ferrick.  See that little section on the right called "categories"?  Everything I’ve ever posted about Melissa Ferrick is in there.  You may not find all of the answers you are looking for but you will find a lot of them.  Free downloads of her music?  Well you can listen to some of her songs on My Space.  She has a blog there.  You can always find great boots of her shows at Cincheetah’s site.  But really, why don’t you just shell out the money and buy the darn CD?  You want to know if she has an eating disorder?  Ummm, why do you need to know this?  She’s very thin.  She lives on the road.  She has a song about not being able to eat (or sleep).  Isn’t that enough for you?  And to those of you looking for the parody of the Etheridge song – I’m a lesbian – Melissa Ferrick doesn’t sing that.  Give up.  It’s not a very good song.  In fact, it’s pretty ridiculous.  And if you’re a lesbian, is that really a song you would enjoy hearing?  Isn’t Drive enough for you?

To those of you looking for 101 vaginas or a daily nude photo.  Sorry, I only have one vagina and I’m really not planning on exposing it here.  I’m also not interested in posting nude photos.  Naked Jen has a great nude photo blog.  She’s awesome and you should visit her and learn something about why nudity is beautiful and to be celebrated.  If you’re just looking for porn, then apparently Twisty’s is something you would be interested in.

I get a lot of search hits for "Twisty’s" from you European searchers.  Apparently it’s a porn site?  I’m not really sure because I won’t click it.  Twisty Faster’s site is the one I’ve talked about and she’s an awesome feminist patriarchy sucks kind of woman.  She doesn’t do daily porn photos.  She does have amazing photos of her masectomy scars but I somehow think you wouldn’t be interested in those, am I right?

To those looking for Lisa Frank backpacks and lunchboxes – sorry, I can’t help you except to say Walmart and Toys R Us. I wouldn’t recommend you buy them though because they fall apart under regular use by 7 year olds and dogs seem to find them really appealing treats to munch on.   Try a Jansport instead, unless you just enjoy buying multiple lunchboxes and backpacks throughout the year.

I’m not sure who started the 101 things in 1001 days MEME.  Sorry, I just know where I got it.  Click that 101 Things category and scroll to the original post.  Maybe that info is enough for you?

Here’s one that made me laugh and I’m getting at least two searches a day for this… Is Terri Clark Gay?  Umm again I ask – what difference does it make?  Unless you are a woman considering asking her for a date, does her orientation really matter?  And if you are a woman considering asking her on a date, well don’t bother because she is married.  To a man.  So even if she is gay, she’s already spoken for so just enjoy her music and her hats and be thankful for having both in your world.

The biggest and most important big of advice I can give to you folks coming here from search is… pay attention… this is big… The word "DOSE" is not the same thing as the word "DOES".  I understand typos, believe me I do.  I also understand if English is not your first language (you should see me conjugate in Spanish, it is not pretty).  But it really is important, if you want accurate search results, to spell the word "DOES" properly.  "Does size matter?"  "Dose size matter?" — see how they are different?  The answer to the first, well listen to that Terri Clark song called "Girls Lie Too" and the answer to the second would be yes, dose size is important – if you’re giving a toddler tylenol or your g/f her imuran or a person with diabetes some insulin.  Dose size is very important.   Does, Does, Does – get it right, folks.  It will help your search results, I promise.

Now get busy searching, ok?

Daily Dose of Blogs – Mommies & Advertising

I’m taking some TW type advice that she doesn’t know she gave – I’m trying to get a lot of little things done so I’ll feel like I have accomplished something.   Here are some little blog things that I’ve meant to do, but haven’t… in no particular order …

See the left nav there?  If you have a blog or a business and would like to advertise here, I’d love to have you.  In fact I’d love to have you so much that you can have a free ad.  Just click the part that says "advertise here".  Fill out the form and in the offer code box type "flamingo".

Also, did you know I’m a mommyblogger?  No kidding, I really am.  Clubmom says so!  And you can see for yourself if you don’t believe me.  You should click that link everyday.  In fact go ahead and subscribe to it.  Mommyblogging is the best kind of blogging.  You don’t want to miss a single thing.  Particularly the stuff about squeeing over my brother, Billy from Melrose Place.

Daily Dose of Stuff – Monday

July_001
For the last two weekends we’ve been busy little bees, here at the Flamingo House.  TW and I have been cleaning under beds, cleaning out closets, cleaning off shelves and just generally de-cluttering.  Four bedrooms are finished, living room and dining room are finished.  We still need to deal with the office aka library and the garage.

This photo is full of stuff from our house, it’s not trash (that would be another photo which I’m not going to take) but it is junk.  Fun junk, but junk just the same.  Most of which I just shake my head at and wonder "What is this doing in my house".

Daily Dose of Carnival – UU Style

The very first UU Carnival is live! Peacebang’s “God Talk” posts were terrific, the comments very good and now I can go and track down the responses a lot more quickly and easily because they’re right here in the Carnival! (Insert Deity) Bless the Carnival! Heh.

I am interested in this:

“Unitarian Universalism is my faith community” but not his religion. He makes a distinction between the two and explains the nuances of his position in more depth. Go check it out along with the commentarial “amens!” following the post.

I missed that somehow, and it makes an awful lot of sense to me. I don’t usually say “Amen!” but I’m tempted this morning.

Go read through the carnival yourself, and consider submitting to CC for the next one – umm submitting to CC? You know what I meant, right?
